Willow Creek Elementary School Hosts Annual Fun Fair

Annual family event featured games, a raffles and a Cake Walk.

The Family Fun Fair was the place to be Saturday afternoon.

There were games like hockey slap shot, Plinko and basketball pop-a-shot. There were raffles featuring themed gift baskets, sports tickets and the opportunity to be principal for the day. There was even a Cake Walk that rivaled any bakery,

Tickets were a quarter each and could be used for games, the Cake Walk and refreshments.

There were about 20 games that appealed to kids of all ages, with the basketball pop-a-shot, run by Physical Education Teacher Maureen Bailey, by far the most popular. A special area just for preschool games featured a lollipop tree and games like ring toss, Chicago Bears bean bag toss and treasure hunt.

The refreshment stand was run by Willow Creek principal , who served up pizza, soft drinks, candy and popcorn. Cotton candy was also available.

Kids lined up down the hall to participate in the Cake Walk for a chance to win delicious cookies, cakes, breads and other treats donated by Willow Creek families.

The highlight of the day were the raffles. Each grade made themed baskets including sports, Disney, reading, spring, summer fun and movie night. Additional prizes included an American Girl Doll, a birthday party for 10 at Game Pazzo, White Sox Tickets and Cubs Tickets and "school" prizes like Principal for the Day, Librarian for The Day, complete sets of school books to keep at home and front seating and parking for school plays and chorus events. Area businesses also donated gift cards and services.

"I love the fun fair!" said sixth-grader Anne Toner. "The raffles are my favorite. I won Band Teacher for a day and can't wait."

Money raised through the Fun Fair goes back to the school and is used to help pay for books, computers, field trips, cultural arts assemblies and other necessities.
