Spots Still Open for Woodridge CRC After-School Programs

The Community Resource Center offers after-school and summer programming for Woodridge's younger residents.

The finished its eight-week summer program Thursday. 

Sixty-five Woodridge kids in first through sixth grades took part in the program, which provides tutoring, field trips and other activities to keep the kids busy.

Croteau said she helped tutor a student last year during two, one-hour weekly sesions. 

Every Thursday, the students go on a field trip. This summer's field trips included trips to a Chicago White Sox game, ,  and  and miniature golf, fishing in the DuPage Forest Preserve, archery and boating.

The students also took part in weekly activities provided by SEASPAR, built Lego robots with University of Illinois Extension and took part in SCARCE recycling. The girls enjoyed programs from Girls in the Game, which promotes sports, growth, leadership and life skills for all elementary girls. 

Registration for the program is offered on a first come, first serve basis. Any child who is a resident of Woodridge is welcome. 

Sixty-five students is similar to the number of children who participated in the program last year, according to Teri Vasile, youth services coordinator for the Woodridge CRC. 

Capacity for the program can be closer to 100 children, Croteau said. 

The Woodridge Community Resource Center is still accepting students for its after-school program. Interested families should contact Teri Vasile or Maria Castellanos at 630-910-7027. 

The after-school program will begin Sept. 19. 

The Woodridge Community Resource Center is part of the Woodridge Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit.
