Downers Grove North student enters worldwide recipe contest

Downers Grove North student and Woodridge resident Alan Topalovic entered a worldwide recipe contest. Anybody who wants to vote should do so before Dec. 10.

    High school is a time for students to experiment with different career fields and find out what exactly it is they want to do for the rest of their lives. While this decision may be hard for some, others have a pretty good idea about their future endeavors.

    Downers Grove North senior, and Woodridge resident, Alan Topalovic, has spent many years in the kitchen, cooking and baking all kinds of delicious foods. He has decided he would like to pursue a career in pastry arts, but he does not want to wait until he graduates to begin his food-creating adventure.

    Earlier this week, Topalovic entered a worldwide recipe contest through Molecule-R Inc., entering his first ever, original recipe for Blueberry Verrines with Strawberry Caviar.

    “I felt really proud of it and seemed to be one of the nicer and more professional things I have made,” Topalovic said.

    In the beginning of the contest, Topalovic started strong, and even took first place for a time, after receiving the highest number of votes.

    “It is a global contest so people from Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Denmark, Hungary, the U.S., Canada, China and others were involved [in the voting]. It seemed amazing,” Topalovic said.

    The voting for this contest ends on Monday, and the winners will be annoouonced shortly after. Topalovic says being a part of this contest has been a great experience, and he is thankful to all of his supporters.

    “I felt proud to be in this, honored even. I was facing competitors around the world it is a great opportunity for me to get my name out there and network…I am blessed to be given this opportunity to be in this contest, and I am overjoyed with the amount of support I have received from everyone,” Topalovic said.

    Anybody who wants to vote in this contest can visit the Facebook page for “Molecule-R Flavors” and “like” the picture of their favoriate entry. The deadline is 9:00 pm on Dec. 10.

    “I hope this brings more attention to the molecular gastronomy art of creating food and I am glad to be a part of it… I thank everyone for their support,” Topalovic said.
