Chicago Marathon: 44 Woodridge Residents Cross the Finish Line
Participants successfully completed 26.2 miles Sunday at the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
Forty-four residents braved 26.2 miles Sunday and completed the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
A record 37,455 participants crossed the finish line in Grant Park during the event, which celebrated its 35th anniversary this year.
Ethiopian runner Tsegaye Kebede won the marathon, setting a course record of 2 hours, 4 minutes and 38 seconds. Winning on the women's side was Ethiopian Atsede Baysa (2:22:41), whose one-second margin of victory over Rita Jeptoo of Kenya was the closest finish in race history.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the Bank of America Chicago Marathon’s 35th year than by rewriting the record books,” said Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski. “Tsegaye took advantage of great racing conditions and stiff competition to smash the course record, and Atsede and Rita treated us to a spirited battle all the way to the finish tape. Their performances set the pace for a wonderful day of marathon running in Chicago, and it’s my pleasure to congratulate all race finishers, and to thank our volunteers, city partners and sponsors who help make this event possible.”
