DGS Boys Tennis Wins Prestigious Invitational

The Downers Grove South team is state-ranked.

The Downers Grove South Boys Tennis Team (5-0) opened their 2012 campaign in impressive style as they traveled to downstate Edwardsville winning the prestigious 32 team Tiger Invitational this weekend.

The highly-touted and state-ranked Mustangs won all five of their dual meets over two days to take the title.

On Friday they defeated Salem 5 to 0 and Springfield Scared heart 5 to 0. On Saturday they took out both Normal Community and Metamora with identical 4 to 1 scores.  And, in the final, the Mustang netters got past powerhouse Edwardsville on their home courts wining 3 to 2.

Winning three matches were Senior Lee “The Real McCoy” Thornquist and sophomore Ryan “Where’s Waldo” McMillan. Coming away with four wins were Junior Captain Cody “Brobie-wan-kenobi” Freischlag, Senior Captain Connor “Willie Foo Foo” Harmon and Senior Kiernan “Raw Dog” Cavanagh. Harmon also collected his 100th victory as a Mustang.

Winning all five matches were Senior Captain Joey “Ghetto” Leto, Junior Jon “The Big Dog” Artus and freshman Tony “The Tiger” Leto, who also was named as the tournament MVP. It was a great weekend to be a Mustang!
