The girls basketball teams will "Shoot for a Cure" against Hinsdale South Friday night.
The varsity game starts at 7:30 p.m. at DGS. The sophomore and freshmen B teams play at 6 p.m. and the freshmen A team plays at 4:30 p.m.
The game should be a good match-up. In the last meeting of the two varsity teams, Hinsdale South pulled out a win in the final seconds.
"Shoot for a Cure" combines basketball and fundraising and awareness for breast cancer research. The annual event was inspired by Kay Yow, head woman's basketball coach at North Carolina State University for 34 years.
Yow is the third coach in women’s Division I history to coach more than 1,000 games at the same school, and one of six to achieve 700 career victories. Coach Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She died on Jan. 24, 2009, after battling breast cancer for the third time.
Proceeds from several raffles will go to the Kay Yow Breast Cancer Research Fund.
Raffle prizes include gift cards to local restaurants, jewelry, designer products, spa treatment days, museum passes, sports memorabilia and adventures such as guided expert fishing expeditions and private flying lessons.
