Pink was everywhere in the stadium Oct. 7 as the .

“The band dyed their gloves pink," said Liz Eberhart, treasurer for the DGS Football Boosters. "The mascot wore a pink shirt. The cheerleaders had pink ribbons in their hair. The entire student section was pink. I saw a lot of pink hair that night."

This year, the boosters ordered 300 shirts to be sold to fans. Every shirt sold, making a profit of $1,000.

“We probably would have sold another 300 shirts if we had them,” Eberhart said.

The Downers Grove South SuperFans, a student group dedicated to promoting school spirit, sold pink headbands to students. Those sales made $125. The money will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

To raise awareness, football players were asked to sign two posters: one in honor of cancer survivors and one in memory of those who had died from cancer. The players named family members, loved ones and friends they knew in each category. Those posters were displayed at the game.

“We’re very happy with how (the event) turned out,” Eberhart said. "We did more than just make it fun. We showed that there’s a need to be aware of (breast cancer).”
