Downers Grove North High School Names New Girls Basketball Head Coach

Stephan Bolt has been named the new head coach for the North High Girls basketball team.

Bolt has served as assistant varsity coach at North for two years and served as head freshman coach for one year. In addition, he has coached and trained at the Chicago Bulls/Sox Academy and Core1 Performance, and volunteered as a coach for the Illinois Wolves.

Bolt is a 2003 graduate of North High, playing on the varsity high school basketball team for three years. He continued playing basketball while attending Lewis University, finishing as the third player in the college’s history with over 1,000 points and 700 rebounds. For one year, he played professional basketball in Dortmund, Germany.

Bolt holds a B.A. in sport management and has been working as a long term substitute teacher and aide at North High School. He is currently enrolled in the master of arts in teaching program at National Louis University, and recently completed his student teaching at South High School.

“I’m excited to serve as the new head coach for the team,” says Bolt.  “It’s been fun to return to my alma mater and be part of the tradition of excellence at North.”

“Stephan has done a terrific job as an assistant coach, and I know he’ll be successful with the varsity team,” says North High Athletic Director Denise Kavanaugh. “Our girls will greatly benefit from not only his superior knowledge of the game, but also his example of good sportsmanship.”
