Downers Grove South Diver Takes Fourth in State

Ryan Kujawa earned the fourth highest diving score at this weekend's state meet.

A junior took fourth in state diving this weekend. 

Ryan Kujawa earned the fourth highest score of 48 divers at the state meet to progress to the state diving finals, where he had the fourth highest score of 12 divers. Kujawa earned 397.85 points for his dive.

Kujawa followed Jordan Sacks, of New Trier, who took first place in state with 444.25 points. Michael Nash, of Loyola Academy, took second with 419.75 points and James Lichtenstein, of Stevenson, took third with 405.15 points.

One other Downers Grove South student competed in the state swimming and diving meet. Senior Peter Errichiello just missed qualifying for the state finals when he took 13th in the 100-yard backstroke prelims with a time of :52.45. The top 12 swimmers qualified for the 100-yard backstroke finals.

Errichiello also took 26th in the 100-yard butterly prelims with a time of :52.44. Again, the top 12 swimmers moved onto the state finals.

Downers Grove South took 25th overall as a team. 

Last year, Errichiello took 22nd in the 100 backstroke in 53.58. Kujawa took 14th in diving. 

Errichiello to swim for the NCAA Divison I University of Illinois at Chicago last fall.
