Jefferson Girls Soccer Team Ends Season 9-0

The girls took first in conference with an undefeated season.

The girls soccer team ended their season undefeated Wednesday, defeating Eisenhower Jr. High School 3-0.

The team has also clinched the SDEAA conference championship. It was the first time in three years Jefferson topped its conference. The Wolverines tied for first place two years ago.

During the nine games played this year, Jefferson scored 54 goals and allowed only two. Simone Gardner and Lexi Dimovski each scored 22.

Coach Jennifer Riskus credits the team's success to the girls' flexibility.

"Everybody played well both in and out of position (this season)," Riskus said. "We had some injuries and had to move people around. I think everybody stepped up and played very well."

The soccer team is made up of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders. All of them play on some sort of club team, as well, said Coach Jennifer Riskus.

While racking up "W's," the girls just have fun together, she said.

"We've never been a very serious team," Riskus said. "My biggest priority is for them to have fun. We're building the foundation of being a team and working together, and they develop more and more as they play together."
