Jefferson Girls Take First in Conference

Battling cold, rainy conditions, the girls cross country team took first in the race and first for the season.

Fighting with umbrellas in the wind and struggling to keep warm, family members of spectators waited in ponchos, winter coats and rain boots as Jefferson Jr. High School participated in its final meet of the season.

Eleven junior and middle schools sent their seven best male and female runners to the Southeast DuPage Elementary Athletic Association conference meet. After the boys and girls races, the meet included an open run for all other runners.

The girls cross country team took first place in conference for the season and the race. The team was undefeated through the regular season with an 8-0 record.

Dimovski said she slipped several times while making turns on the course. She'd never run a meet in those conditions, just practice.

Eight Jefferson runners received ribbons for the girls open race for placing in the top 20. Three boys received ribbons for their open race.

The teams are coached by Deb Psenicka and Shelley Pavilionis.
