Three Mustangs Sign With NCAA Division I Schools

Downers Grove South seniors signed their letters of intent to University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola and the University of Illinois.

Three  seniors signed letters of intent Wednesday to play at NCAA Division I schools.

Swimmer Peter Errichiello will be attending the University of Illinois at Chicago. Catcher Katy LaCivita, who also plays first base, will attend Loyola University and Shortstop Danielle Trezzo will attend the University of Illinois in Champaign. 

“These three students epitomize hard work and dedication, in both academics and athletics,” said South High School Athletic Director Randall Konstans in a district release. “We are proud of their achievements and successes while at South High School, and wish them the best in the future.”

Peter Errichiello (University of Illinois at Chicago)-Swimming

Last year, Errichiello helped lead the team to its first outright conference championship in eight years. Additionally, Errichiello qualified for the IHSA State Swim meet in the 100 yard backstroke and placed 22nd. Errichiello’s time in the backstroke is one of the top times at South High. Errichiello also has multiple other events in which he is one of the top 10 fastest South High swimmers of all time. Outside of high school swimming, Errichiello has competed with some of the top swimmers in the United States at national level meets.

Katy LaCivita (Loyola University)-Softball

LaCivita has been a varsity starter since her freshmen year. She has helped the South High Mustangs to an 81-24 record with three West Suburban Gold Conference championships, two regional championships, and one sectional championship.  She was a three-time West Suburban Gold All Conference player, a two-time Daily Herald All Area team player (2010 and 2011), Downers Grove Reporter/Progress All Area pick (2010 and 2011) and Illinois Coaches Association All State catcher in 2011. She has a career batting average of .387 with 14 home runs and 95 RBIs. She is an honor roll student.

"I thought the campus was beautiful," she said. "I feel in love with it. The coaches are awesome. The team has a family atmosphwere." 

Playing softball in college has been a dream of hers since T-ball, she said. 

LaCivita is also involved in Rush Corps., the DGS SuperFans and DECA. 

Danielle Trezzo (University of Illinois)-Softball

Trezzo has been a varsity starter since her freshmen year. She has helped the South High Mustangs to an 81-24 record with three West Suburban Gold Conference championships, two Regional championships, and one sectional championship. She was a two-time West Suburban Gold All Conference player, a two-time Daily Herald All Area Team player (2010 and 2011), a Downers Grove Reporter/Progress All Area pick (2010 and 2011). She has hit 22 career home runs along with 97 career RBIs. Her 12 home runs during her sophomore year is second in all-time home runs for a season at South High. She is an honor roll student.

"I've always wanted to play in college since I was little," Trezzo said. "All of my family and past coaches have helped me through everything and pushed me to get to where I am today."
