Your Take: Concealed Carry in Illinois (Poll)

Cast your vote and see what some of your neighbors think of Illinois' becoming the last state in the nation to have legal private concealed carry.

Concealed carry of firearms was legalized Tuesday as the Illinois House and Senate overrode Gov. Pat Quinn's amendatory veto.

We asked our readers: Are you outraged or relieved? Do you think carrying a gun as you go about your day is a way to protect yourself from dangerous people, or is it something that will lead to increased gun violence on the streets?

Read some of their responses below, and vote in the poll above:

Patrick R. Kuhn III—“The Constitution and the Bill of Rights work just fine, as is. And therefore I'm glad the House reaffirmed our right to bear arms, but if they didn't, I wouldn't really care, I'll do what's necessary to protect myself and those I love anyhow. It's my right to. Government didn't grant me that right. My creator did. Our forefathers simply put that into words when they wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.” – Naperville Patch Facebook

Robert Haras—“It is a very bad thing. Wild Wild West has begun. Jesse James is alive and well, running the streets.” - Woodridge Patch Facebook

Christofer Sims—“It is sad that we even need to think about protecting ourselves in this manner. Preach and practice peace!” – Naperville Patch Facebook

Melissa Wagner—“I think it’s a good thing. It will not keep gangbangers from their guns, but it may let them think twice about who they are going to rob or other crimes.” - Woodridge Patch Facebook

Paul O'Connor—“Gun control works very well in Chicago, some of the strongest gun control laws in the country with almost the highest levels of gun violence. The criminals conceal and carry anyway, if law abiding people need to carry for protection the old laws turned then into criminals as well. This is a good thing for the good guys.” – Naperville Patch Facebook

Sherril Niemann—“I guess if I accidentally cut someone off I could potentially get shot. Great.” – Naperville Patch Facebook

Sharon Suchowski—“Time will tell... when Gabby Gifford was shot the shooter was brought down when reloading. It was a conceal and carry state and people had weapons on them but did not use them because of the chaos going on around them—that showed restraint on their part which was good, [but] I am concerned about domestic situations and people being hot headed and losing control.” - Woodridge Patch Facebook

Joe Hoffman—“Proper training is key. It won't be a good thing for amateurs to have one.” - Woodridge Patch Facebook

Melissa Wagner—“I think it’s a good thing. It will not keep gangbangers from their guns, but it may let them think twice about who they are going to rob or other crimes.” - Woodridge Patch Facebook
