How to Set Reasonable New Year’s Resolutions This Year!

Tips to keeping your New Year's Resolution in 2012.

Along with ringing in the New Year with family and friends, many people look at Jan. 1 as a clean slate. A new you in a new year! It is very common for people to make resolutions to improve themselves and their lives. Weight loss, increasing exercise and quitting smoking are common resolutions people commit to. But not everyone succeeds!

Here are a few simple tips to help you set realistic goals for yourself:

1) Be as specific as you can when picking a goal. Instead of saying you want to lose weight, put a number to it- Lose 20 lbs in 2012. Then list out the steps on how you plan on losing the 20 lbs. Being specific allows you to set a measurable
goal which is key to accomplishing what you set out to do.

2) Be realistic. Don't set yourself up for failure before you even begin! Instead of
saying that you want to fit into a size 8 by Valentine’s Day, commit to being healthy and make a lasting lifestyle change instead. Setting a reasonable and
motivating goal will be inspiring and more attainable.

3) Let people know what you are trying to accomplish. Creating a support system gives you accountability which is crucial when trying to make changes in your
behavior. Find a workout buddy to motivate you to get moving on sluggish days
and surround yourself with people who have similar goals.

4) Be patient. Just because you might slip up once or twice doesn't mean that your
goal is out of reach completely. If you find that you are continually failing to accomplish your goals on your own, don't be afraid to ask for help. Wellness Coaching is a great way to stay on track to making lasting changes.

A wellness coach works with individuals to help them improve any area they choose -- whether it be nutrition, fitness, stress, career or health. As a coach, I will assist you in getting from where you are to where you want to be and in adapting behavioral changes that will allow you to achieve success. A wellness coach will be there to motivate and support you from start to finish.

Best of health in the New Year!
