Hi Brea - Just curious, how are you online during the school day? Is that allowed at Edison MiddleRead More School? I was waiting to hear from Mark about whether he is okay with my sharing with everyone what he e-mailed to me (I had e-mailed him to ask for clarification on what his role was in Sunday's incident). I didn't hear back, but I presume he doesn't mind my sharing it, since he already shared it with me, a "stranger." Here is what he wrote to me: The gentlemen they mentioned did get [the survivor] out of the water. They were a little more down stream. I got in the water a little further upstream and by the time I got to the middle of the river he had already floated passed me. I was within 15 feet of him and yelled to him to put his foot down to slow his drift so I could get him. The other two gentlemen who were on the other side of the bridge (down river from me) reached him and brought him to shore. After he floated by me I saw he was OK because the other gentleman was there to grab him. I ran back up to the dam to see if I could help the man who eventually died. By the time I got back up to the dam he was already pulled under and never resurfaced. All this happened in a 4-5 minute period. Quick and confusing. That's the story. That's how Karen and I were involved. Horrible, tragic day.

Lisa - Kids have access to the Internet. That's how he was online. This isn't 1970.
Lisa April 24, 2014 at 12:47 pm
Geneva Taxpayer - I assume that Brea is a "she," not a "he," but then again,Read More this isn't 1970. :) More to the point though, if Brea is who she says she is (i.e., a student at Mr. Stankus' school), she's not supposed to be online during the school day, per Dist. 200's policy and Edison's policy.

Did you see the Drew Peterson movie? It portrayed Hosey's office as a gleaming, modern andRead More bustling. As opposed to the stained drop-ceiling and general bleakness. Just let the Patch be the joke it always has been.
Jacob Matthews April 21, 2014 at 08:48 am
Leave it to the Patch to embellish Comedy Central as a business to be respected.

Maybe Flo W and Jake Matt are smokin' the same stuff "Officer Munchies" might have beenRead More on. Hope he was given blood and hair toxicology tests. Thought they were trained in defensive driving. What if it was a human body that the squad was "Mounted" on? Would you dismiss it also, Scum? I was told by a woman who counsels officers that 75-80% of all officers suffer from mental illness. If that is true, I hope the officer gets a psych exam and also pays for the damage out of his/her own pocket and NOT the Taxpayers. It isn't funny, it's Scary!

Patch - could you please add this to the Darien Patch site? It pertains more to that area and maybeRead More someone might know something.

I met Walter last year in Puerto Vallarta. He and Kim won a 3 night stay with Eric & Kathy fromRead More The Mix radio station. He was funny and well liked. I heard he was in Los Cabos this year again with the Eric & Kathy show. I wasn't able to go this year, but am sure he was just as fun this year. I was shocked when I realized who was driving the truck. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Sad that some people believe that the beating was justified. That type of punishment did not befitRead More the crime. It appears that the officers have mental health issues. If they are so thin-skinned that they have to beat someone for spitting on them, then they are probably sick in the head. They can get help for that type of psychotic outburst. If he spit on another patron and a bunch of guys jumped him, they would have been arrested. Everyone I have spoken to believes the officers should go to jail. I can't disagree. Anger management problems=Mental Illness. Sicko Boys in Blue.

@ knee jerk. Although the upper limit IQ for officers is 105, the target IQ is between 94-98. TheRead More average IQ of a U.S. citizen is 100. Whenever you are speaking to a police officer, you are most likely speaking to someone with an IQ considerably Lower than your own. Please remember to speak slowly, always try to limit the amount of syllables in each word to less than three, and try not to laugh... Cuz They get Really Paranoid. Must be the drugs.

Does anything happen in Darien anymore?! I never see any articles about anything happening inRead More Darien, the Lion's Club pancake breakfast, the armed robberies at the gas stations, the 75th St. construction, city council budget, anything Darien related! How can you call this the Darien Patch when there is nothing about Darien in. Every other town or city has a Patch site that has articles related to their town. We get lazy editors who just copy and paste from other news sites.
Kelly O' March 30, 2014 at 06:17 pm
You don't have a lot of crime in Darien. Thank your lucky stars.

@Bambi: OMGPD is a feature that recounts some of the more unusual crime stories in the Chicago-areaRead More suburbs. It's appeared weekly in your Deerfield Patch for about 2 years. @Adam West: I will email you directly with more information about Darien Patch, one of the Patches in the region that has been without a full-time editor for the last year.

Actually, today (April 4th) she WAS fired. However, I find it a great example of ridiculous unionRead More rules that it took them this long to do so.

She will have cost all us taxpayers a lot of money when this is all done. Millions in lawsuits andRead More probably a million plus in repairs to the system. I could be wrong, but maybe a little more training and evaluation needs to be implemented before someone is turned loose at the controls...
