Last year, the money was used to purchase laptops for every eighth grade student. Students with the highest donations get the honor of throwing a pie at Principal Gail Kueper and Fifth-Grade Teacher Amy Yusko. The class with the most donations wins a pizza party. Second grade raised the most of any grade, with $1,201.83 in donations. Brunswick Zone, Hollywood Blvd, Woodridge Park District and Ziegfield Troy-Lost Mountain Mini-Golf also …

Former Oswego High School language arts teacher and Woodridge resident Dale Fry says erectile dysfunction should have been part of original sexual abuse defense.
Dale Fry, the Oswego High School teacher convicted last year of sexually abusing a female student, testified in Kendall County court Wednesday that his battle with erectile dysfunction was a factor that was never brought forward in his trial and could have played a key role in his defense. In a post-trial hearing to determine whether Fry could receive a new trial with a new attorney, the Woodridge resident said he had been struggling with a decreased sexual drive, hypogonadism and erectile dysfunction since about 2000. Fry also said his previous attorney, Philip Nathe of Naperville, told him that his medical condition would have no bearing on the case. “I thought it was important enough that it be brought up because of the charges against …

The holidays in question are Martin Luther King's Birthday, Abraham Lincoln's Birthday, Casimir Pulaski Day, Columbus Day and Veterans Day. The district does not anticipate to use these holidays for school attendance but "wants the flexibility to do so in case of an emergency," according to a district release. Using these days for school attendance would be a "very rare exception." The board will vote on the recommendation following the hearing. The agenda item for the public hearing reads as …

Read how the eighth-graders devised a clever plan to win Penny Wars (it involves a wheelbarrow).
St. Scholastica students recently raised almost $1,800 for a school for orphans in Imiliwaha, Tanzania. The money will be sent to Sister Afra Mgwama, who spent time at St. Scholastica while studying for her master's degree from Benedictine University. The fundraiser, "Socks for Sister," required students to donate change in large athletic socks. Grades compete against one another for the most points. Pennies earn points. Silver coins and dollar bills take away points. "Competition gets fierce, but it’s lots of fun and raises money for good cause," wrote two eighth-graders in a school release. "The lower grades collected their funds in a friendly competition, but the older kids called for war," the release said. "The tallies each day …
