Illinois House Votes to End Concealed-Carry Ban

A law that would end Illinois' status as the last state in the nation without concealed-carry provisions passed the House with enough votes to override a likely veto.

By an 85-30 vote, the Illinois House moved on Friday to approve a law allowing certified residents to carry concealed firearms, which would end Illinois' status as the only state in the nation to completely prohibit carrying guns in public. According to Reuters, the "shall-issue" law, supported by Democratic Speaker Michael Madigan, mandates that concealed-carry permits be issued to Firearm Owners Identification Card-holders who have completed 16 hours of training; it maintains the ban on firearms in many places, including government buildings, schools, stadiums and bars. "Criminals are cowards," Rep. Mike Bost, a southern Illinois Republican, told the Associated Press before the vote. "If they know there's an opportunity they're going to …

maybe somehow someone misunderstood my stand on this issue.. just because I said I could see bad mistakes with crossfire happening from well intentioned people trying to protect themselves or others .. i am far from anti gun. I am whole heartedly 100% pro 2nd ammendment.. just think its probably smart to make sure people are trained and learn to feel comfortable using the TOOL which is all it is …   more ›

Felix the Chihuahua-Terrier Mix Needs a Home

Fourteen-week old Felix is available for adoption at the Hinsdale Humane Society.

Name: Felix Age: 14 weeks Sex: Male Breed: Chihuahua/terrier Weight: 7 lbs. Good with kids?: Yes, 13 years and older More info: Felix has a ton of energy and would be a good fit for a family where someone is home for most of the day. Although he’s a young pup, Felix is responding well to training and can “walk politely outdoors on a leash.” He’s dog friendly but not so fond of cats. Because he’s so lively, he’d be best served by a family that has experience owning dogs. Interested? Contact the Hinsdale Humane Society at 630-323-5630 or at 22 N. Elm St. in Hinsdale.

Best of Craigslist: $4,000 Cello; 100+ Happy-Meal Toys

Check out some of the most interesting posts we were able to find for Naperville, Lisle and Woodridge on Craigslist this past week.

The following items and postings were found on Craigslist for the Naperville, Lisle and Woodridge area. Note: Patch has no control over the status of these posts on Craigslist and how long they remain available. Wow, apparently this is not the sort of cello you let your poor, suffering elementary-school kid lug to and from school. No, this is a “custom made full size cello and Dvorak Bow made of Pernambuco wood.” There’s an incredibly detailed history on the page, too (wood from the Adirondacks, half made in China, half in Boston…) But will it turn you into Yo-Yo Ma? Either way, it’s a $3,985 from Naperville. What happens to all those Happy Meal toys that are played with once and then utterly forgotten about? Well, some of them end up …

Higher Speed Limit Bill Heads to Gov's Desk

70 mph on rural interstates not a done deal yet, as bill has its opponents.

A bill to increase the maximum speed limit in Illinois could hit Gov. Pat Quinn’s desk for signature soon. Whether Quinn will sign it remains to be seen. The bill, introduced by Republican State. Sen. Jim Oberweis, would raise the speed limit on rural Illinois highways to 70 mph. The bill, which has passed both chambers of the state legislature, has been met with opposition due to safety concerns by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, according to the Chicago Tribune. “The progression of this legislation is a good example of what can be accomplished when lawmakers work together in a bipartisan manner for the good of our state,” Oberweis said. “It was sponsored by …

Funny that Common Sense should learn to spell, otherwise he appears unintelligent. Most likely, a supporter of those that are destroying Illinois - Durbin, Quinn, Madigan, Madigan, Tiny Dance, recycled Foster and Duckworth. I prefer to get to my destination sooner because I have things to do and people to see. Besides, the additional fuel costs are less important to me, than is the time saved. …   more ›
