There will be a familiar face on the November ballot for the Illinois House’s 82nd District. Incumbent State Rep. Jim Durkin won the district’s Republican nomination with 75.4 percent of the vote, defeating challenger Laura Reigle. It’s been relatively quiet in the 82nd District leading up to Tuesday’s Republican primary. But with hours left before the election, Illinois Rep. Mike Aurelio, president of the Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education, announced Monday that he is endorsing State Rep. The Republican defeated Democratic challenger Matthew Mostowik with over three-quarters of the vote.
UPDATED Republican Jim Durkin will retain his seat in the Illinois General Assembly as representative for the 82nd District after defeating Democratic challenger Matthew Mostowik. The Springfield veteran won 69.99 percent of the votes in DuPage County with 100 percent of precincts reporting, according to the DuPage County Election Commission. He won 76.4 percent of the votes in Cook, with 50 out of 52 precincts reporting, according to the Cook County Clerk's Office. Jim Durkin is no stranger to Springfield. He's represented the 82nd District in the Illinois House since 2006, and before that represented the 44th District from 1995 to 2002.
