Woodridge Man Ruled Insane, Not Guilty of Murdering Father With Weed Trimmer A Woodridge man was found not guilty of murdering his father with a weed trimmer by reason of insanity. Yashesh Desai, 22, of Woodridge, was accused of his father's murder in August 2011. On Monday, DuPage County Judge Robert Kleeman ruled Desai not guilty based on insanity. Desai was charged with first-degree murder in August 2011 after Woodridge police responded to a call and found Desai's father, Sanjiv Desai, lying on a futon in the computer room of his house in Plover Court. Adam Belmont is accused of murdering and sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Alyssa Van Meter, Dec. 15 in a Woodridge apartment.
A man accused in the stabbing death and sex assault of a Woodridge resident pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday. Adam Belmont, 23, of Northlake, is charged with first-degree murder, home invasion, aggravated criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and abuse of a corpse. Police say Belmont went to ex-girlfriend Alyssa Van Meter's Woodridge apartment at about 9 p.m. Dec. 15 and climbed through a window in her balcony. About a week earlier, the two broke up. It's alleged that Belmont choked Van Meter until she was unconscious, then stabbed her one time in the heart. Belmont is also accused of sexually assaulting the woman after stabbing her. Two brutal homicides, allegedly at the hands of jealous ex-boyfriends, as well as a drive-by shooting, saddened local readers this year.
Three senseless crimes resulted in shocking murders this year in the Darien and Woodridge area. Two of them allegedly came at the hands of jealous ex-boyfriends, one who was accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and another accused of killing his ex's new boyfriend. The other, the drive-by shooting of a Hinsdale South graduate, rocked an apartment complex in nearby Willowbrook. Woodridge resident Alyss Van Meter was a tow truck driver who loved helping others, friends say. She died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012. She was 25. Her ex-boyfriend is charged with her murder, and he is being held in DuPage County Jail without bond. A Northlake man is accused of stabbing to death and then sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend, a Woodridge resident. He was denied bond in DuPage County Court on Monday. According to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, 23-year-old Adam Belmont, of Northlake, is charged with the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend, Woodridge resident Alyssa Van Meter. Belmont appeared in court Monday and was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault and one count of home invasion, both Class X felonies.
