Woodridge Police Reports Oct. 7 - Oct. 11.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7 According to Woodridge Police, someone set fire to a dumpster in the 7900 block of Chelsea at approximately 5:07 p.m. The fire caused damage to the dumpster, some wood fencing and a vehicle parked near the dumpster. At approximately 7:30 p.m., someone set fire to a light pole in the parking lot in the 2400 block of Forest Drive.  The fire shorted out the lighting in the parking lot. Woman Pleads Guilty to Woodridge Apartment Complex Fire

The fire at Windsor Lakes apartments cost $25,000 in damage.

A 30-year-old woman from Rosemont was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to setting a fire earlier this year at a Woodridge apartment complex. In a deal with prosecutors, who dropped an aggravated arson count, Maria Bustamante received credit for six months she served in DuPage County Jail and was ordered to pay $535 in court costs. No injuries were reported as a result of the February fire at Windsor Lakes apartments. Authorities said the fire was started in a hallway and caused about $25,000 in damage. The Woodridge Police Department is investigating an incident in which gunshots were fired Wednesday night in the 8000 block of Janes Avenue. Police said they responded to the area around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses said a shot had been fired into the air after an argument broke out between two groups of people, according to reports. They soon after found a suspicious car nearby around Natural Falls apartment complex and detained the vehicle's occupants for investigation, according to reports. Park District: Two Fires Set at Castaldo Park this Week

The Woodridge Park District is offering a $500 reward for information.

Two incidents of arson have taken place at Castaldo Park in the past week, the Woodridge Park District announced Thursday.  Around 4:30 a.m. on March 26, someone set the portable toilets on fire, resulting in the loss of the toilets, their wooden enclosure and the pads beneath the toilets, officials said.  Then around 3:30 p.m. on March 28, someone set two trash bins on fire.  "We are asking residents to report any information about individuals that caused the senseless destruction to your community park," park district officials wrote in the release.  If the information you provide to the park district's Arson Tipster leads to the arrest of the "arson perpetrator or conspirator," you may be eligible for a reward up to $500.  All …

This is so sad. These types of things is what gives Woodridge a bad name. Thank goodness no one got hurt and the damage didn't effect the homes so close to the park. I hope they get caught!   more ›

Rosemont Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Starting Woodridge Apartment Fire

A Rosemont woman charged with intentionally setting a fire at a Woodridge apartment complex has pleaded not guilty. Maria Bustamante, 19, of Rosemont, is accused of aggravated arson and residential arson in connection to a February fire at the Windsor Lakes apartments. During her March 19 arraignment, the judge also ordered Bustamante to undergo a psychological evaluation. She remains held in DuPage County Jail on $1 million bail. Officials said Bustamante entered the apartment building in the 7300 block of Woodward Avenue around 3 a.m. Feb. 20 and started a fire in a hallway just outside the door to one of its units.  No one was injured in the fire, though one resident fled a smoky hallway through a first-floor window.  The fire caused …

A Rosemont woman charged with intentionally set a fire at the Windsor Lakes apartment complex in Woodridge will plead guilty or not guilty in court Monday. Maria Bustamante, 19, has been indicted by a grand jury and charged with aggravated arson and residential arson in connection to the February fire. She remains held in DuPage County Jail on $1 million bail. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has a hold placed on Bustamante, which means she would remain in custody if she were to post bond in the case. $1M Bond Set for Woman Charged with Starting Woodridge Apartment Fire

Maria Bustamante, 29, of Rosemont, started a fire in the hallway of the Windsor Lakes apartment complex Monday, according to authorities.

A Rosemont woman has been charged with aggravated arson after authorities say she set a fire in the hallway of the Windsor Lakes apartment complex Monday.  Maria Bustamante, 29, of the 2800 block of Irving Park Road in Rosemont, faces one count of aggravated arson, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in jail. Bustamante appeared in bond court Thursday. Her bond was set at $1 million.  Officials said Bustamante entered the apartment building in the 7300 block of Woodward Avenue around 3 a.m. and started a fire in a hallway just outside the door to one of its units.  No one was injured in the fire, which created "a great deal of smoke" in the hallways of the building, according to a press release from the Darien-Woodridge Fire Department…
