Seventeen Community High School District 99 were chosen the best in their art mediums at the District 99 art show at the Woodridge Public Library. More than 100 students are highlighted in the show, which is available for public viewing until April 21. The library art show began in 2008 after a committe of schools, park district, and government agencies officials met. "The visual art teams at DGS and DGN believe that finding a public venue to showcase student work is an essential element of a strong visual art program," said DGS Fine Arts Department Chair Glenn Williams. Want to experience artwork from talented local artists? Easy. Just visit the Woodridge Public Library. Every month, an artist is featured in the library's lobby. For the eleventh year, artwork from local Woodridge residents are featured this month. "There are so many local people of many levels of talent that would not otherwise have a chance at exposure to the public," said Joe and Judy Falout, two such Woodridge artists. "This is a great venue to experience that exposure and enjoy it displayed." Between them, the Falouts have more than 50 years of photography experience. Artist Peter Bosy's work will be on display at the Woodridge Public Library throughout February. I asked him 10 questions about his experience in photography and his collection. What is the most meaningful photo you've ever taken? I took a black and white portrait in the studio of my daughter when she was 10 months old and captured a magical moment that's hard to explain. What drove you to pursue photography? As an undergraduate at UIC, my interest was in photorealism, or drawing objects to look like a photo. The Hinsdale Center is accepting pieces for its 24th annual art exhibit.
The Hinsdale Center for the Arts will hold its 24th annual high school art exhibition, beginning Saturday, April 9. Teachers from DuPage and western Cook County schools submit student artwork in all artistic media to the exhibition. All submitted work is exhibited, and the work is evaluated by art professionals who present up to 12 awards of excellence. On April 16, a special program by Chicago's School of the Art Institute will be presented at 4 p.m., followed by a reception for students, teachers, parents and guests. During the special program, students will be able to view the portfolios of students from all over the country who are currently enrolled as freshmen at SAIC.
