A ceremony will be held Feb. 7 to welcome South High's newest Hall of Fame inductees.
Downers Grove South High School will welcome seven new members to its Athletic Hall of Fame next month, school officials announced Thursday. The inductees include three former athletes and two coaches—all of whom have made substantial contributions to South High's athletic programs. “We are pleased to honor these people for their athletic accomplishments and vast contributions to our programs,” said South High School Athletic Director Randall Konstans. “Each one of them has set an example for all of us and a foundation of athletic success at our school.” The inductees will be welcomed into the Hall of Fame during a ceremony Saturday, Feb. 9, at South High, 1436 Norfolk St. A social hour will be held at 4 p.m., followed by the sophomore …

North High School in Downers Grove will welcome two new members to its Athletic Hall of Fame next month. Athletes Laura DeBruler, who graduated in 2007, and athlete Allison Barrett-Bourn, who graduated in 2001, will both be inducted to the Hall of Fame on Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. The induction celebration will be held in the main gym following the girls varsity basketball game, which starts at 6 p.m., and before the boys varsity game. Downers Grove South held their annual Althetic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Saturday to honor the new inductees.
On Saturday, Jan. 8,Downers Grove South High School inducted four individuals and the 1996 state champion girl’s volleyball team into its Athletic Hall of Fame. More than 60 people, including past Hall of Fame inductees, came out to support the 2011 inductees. This year’s individual inductees were Becky Blacharczyk from the class of ’92, Ryan Curry from the class of ’03, Coach Dick Flaiz and Coach Judy Griesheim. The night began with a social hour from 5 to 6 p.m. where plaques for the individuals and the 1996 state champion trophy were displayed, along with a video portraying all the inductees during their athletic careers at DGS. Twenty-three former Downers Grove South High School players and coaches will be inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday. That's 21 more than the three individuals honored in last year's Hall of Fame class: student athlete Martin O'Donnell and Bob and Betsy Holland. The Hall of Fame's Class of 2011 includes former student athletes Becky Blacharczyk, class of 1992, and Ryan Curry, class of 2003, as well as former basketball coach Dick Flaiz and former volleyball coach Judy Griesheim.
