Benet Academy Announces Homecoming Week Schedule

This year's Homecoming theme is 'There's No Place Like Home.'

Benet Academy will be celebrating Homecoming with a week of activities and events for students, faculty/staff and alumni. The theme for Homecoming this year is “There’s No Place Like Home.” Homecoming week is Monday, September 17 through Saturday, September 22. Benet Academy to Present Elvis Presley Production

See "All the King's Women" April 26-29.

Benet Academy will present an Elvis Presley-inspired production this weekend with a Woodridge resident working behind-the-scenes.   "All the King's Women" by Luigi Jannuzzi tells the story of Elvis Presley through the eyes of 16 women.  It's "a fast-paced series of comedic plays and monologues based on the life of Elvis Presley, from Tupelo Mississippi where 11-year-old Elvis wanted a BB Gun instead of a guitar, to the Steve Allen Show," according to a school release, "from President Richard Nixon’s office to Andy Warhol’s studio, from Cadillac Salesmen, to Graceland guards. Woodridge Students Make Third Quarter Benet Honor Roll

Thirty-nine students were recognized for academic excellence.

Thirty-nine Benet Academy students from Woodridge made third quarter honor roll. Eighteen made first honors, which requires an academic average between 92 and 100 percent. Woodridge Benet Students Make First Semester Honor Roll

Fifteen students from Woodridge made first honors; 26 students from Woodridge made second honors.

Five Benet Athletes Sign National Letter of Intent

Jamei Borges of Woodridge will play soccer for Saint Louis University.

Five Benet Academy students signed letters of intent to play their specific sport in college.  Jamei Borges of Woodridge will play soccer for St. Louis University.  Catherine Caniglia of Naperville will play soccer for Miami University in Ohio. Rachel Lovely of Aurora will play soccer at High Point University. Allison Pavlik of Aurora will swim for Bowling Green State University and Benjamin Kucera of Burr Ridge will play soccer for Creighton University.

Woodridge Benet Students Named AP Scholars

Four Benet students from Woodridge received honors for their scores on AP tests last spring.

Four students at Benet Academy from Woodridge have earned AP Scholar Awards based on their AP test scores from last spring. The scores are graded out of 5.  Roy Taylor qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award, earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Elaine Krebs was recognized as an AP Scholar with Honor, earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. Timothy Menich and Katie Ortman were recognized as AP Scholars by completing three or more AP exams with scores of 3 or higher. Only 18 percent of the more than 1.8 million high school students worldwide who took AP exams …

Benet Girls Cross Country Team Off to State

The Benet Academy girls cross country team qualified for the 3A State Cross Country meet by taking fifth at the sectional meet on Saturday.

The Benet Academy girls cross country team qualified for the 3A State Cross Country meet on Saturday.  The team took fifth at the 3A sectional meet. Benet is the only private school to qualify for state in the 3A class, according to Coach Scott Brooks.  It is the 10th time in the program's history that the team has qualified for state. The last time Benet qualified was 2008.  Benet's top finisher at sectionals was Junior Audrey Blazek, who took 19th with a time of 17:47.  These are the rest of Benet's results:

Benet Has High Expectations for Volleyball Playoffs

Downers Grove resident Nora Young is one of many tall, talented seniors fueling Benet's state title quest.

With an unprecedented eight players who stand 6-foot or taller, the Benet Academy girls volleyball team literally towers over its opponents. The Redwings hope to use that height in their quest to win their first state championship. That drive begins Tuesday when Benet hosts either Joliet West or Plainfield East in the playoff opener. Benet (32-3) is the top seed at the Class 4A West Aurora Sectional and is hosting a regional for the first time. “It’s definitely a unique situation to be as tall as we are,” Benet coach Brad Baker said. “We feel very lucky and we try to take advantage of it.” The Redwings are so deep that they were able to beat a 23-win Carmel squad 28-26, 25-15 in the regular season finale on Thursday despite not playing …
