The Master Bike Path Plan: The East Branch DuPage River Greenway Trail

Check out what Woodridge and Lisle have in store for bike trails.

Walkers and bicyclists looking to expand their horizons have something new to celebrate. On Friday, Oct. 29, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced a $514,700 grant that would begin construction on a local section of the East Branch DuPage River Greenway Trail. Falling between Hobson Road and Maple Avenue, the 5.4-mile multi-use trail will work to connect the villages of Lisle and Woodridge with regional attractions. The 31-mile east branch is one of eight sections of the county's overall plan. Once completed, a cyclist can hop on the Greenway Trail and swing past 29 local parks, ten forest preserve areas and 18 colleges. DuPage County Receives $514,700 to Construct Multi-Use Trail in Lisle and Woodridge

The new trail will be located west of IL-53 and east of the East Branch of the DuPage River, near Seven Bridges.

A new multi-use trail will be constructed in 2012 in south Lisle and Woodridge, thanks to a $514,700 grant from the Illinois Transportation Enchancement Program. Illinois Secretary of Transportation Gary Hannig announced the awarding of funds Friday along the southside of Summerhill Drive in Woodridge, near the site of the proposed trail. The project includes the construction of a 10-foot wide, 5.4-mile asphalt multi-use trail, according to a press release from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The trail will be located near the Seven Bridges commercial complex and the Four Lakes residential community, west of IL-53 and east of the East Branch of the DuPage River. I got a paper copy from the Village of Lisle. I've only been able to find the current map on the web site, so I'd recommend calling either village office.   more ›
