DuPage Health Department: Blood Donors Sought to Boost Supply

Blood donations typically drop off during the winter months and residents are encouraged to donate blood.

With blood in short supply during the winter months, the DuPage County Health Department is encouraging residents to donate blood to help save lives. January is National Blood Donor Month. Blood tends to be in short supply during winter because people take vacations, travel, weather tends to be worse and more people become ill. Blood centers also rely on high schools and colleges hosting blood drives and those are on break early in the year. Blood drives at schools provide about 15 percent of regional blood collections, according to the DuPage County Health Department. The village of Woodridge will host a blood drive to provide vital support to those that need it from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the foyer of Village Hall, located at 5 Plaza Drive. Jaycees Fundraiser Saturday Provides “Something For Everyone”

The Woodridge Jaycees' “Something for Everyone” event will take place Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Park District Community Center.

The Woodridge Jaycees wanted to mix several events into one large fundraiser.  That's why you'll see child identification cards, a blood drive, pet adoption and a car wash at the Jaycees "Something for Everyone" event this Saturday from 10:30 to 3 p.m. at the Park District Community Center. “We’ve done car washes and blood drives before, but never together in one big event,” said Debbi White, management vice president of the Jaycees.  “We wanted to bring several opportunities together to make it a family event, with literally something for everyone.” The Illinois Child Identification Program, sponsored by the Illinois Masons, gives parents the means necessary to help police find missing children.  Parents will go home with a photo ID, …
