SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois General Assembly passed a budget — almost on time — Thursday, with the Senate ending about 1:30 a.m. Friday. A provision in the budget specifies that taxes will increase at least $5 per year for the average Woodridge household.
The Woodridge village board passed the village's budget for fiscal year 2012-2013 Thursday night. Woodridge households will see an increase of at least $5 to their tax bill each year as part of a provision to the Village of Woodridge's FY2013 budget. The increase would only be on behalf of the village's portion of the tax bill. The village's annual tax levy also includes the levy for the Woodridge Public Library. The $5 increase would not include any increases in taxes to support the library. The village's current tax bill, not including taxes to support the Woodridge Public Library, is $238 for the average Woodridge household. Woodridge residents will also see an increase to their water bills, according to a village press release, due …

The course ended the season with $10,000 in profit.
Village Greens Golf Course managed to turn a profit during the 2011 season while other local courses were in the red, Director of Golf Brandon Evans told the village board last week. 2011 was the 15th year for Village Greens and also “perhaps the most challenging year,” Evans said. The course saw a profit of $10,000 in a year where early and mid-season rains “played havoc with rounds played and with revenues,” he said. Naperbrook and Springbrook Golf Courses in Naperville were projecting a net loss of $75,000, he said, while Fox Bend in Oswego reported in November a net loss of $125,000. "In 15 years of Park District controll we still haven't lost any money," Evans said. "We're very proud of that." Golf rounds at Village Greens were down 7…

The village board will vote on its 2012-2013 budget at a future board meeting.
It's a switch from village policy as recently as 2009, when the village sought to reduce its tax rate for 25 consecutive years. The village voted to increase the average tax bill by $8 in 2010. The village board split in a vote Dec. 8, 2011, to raise its tax levy $10 for the average Woodridge household. Mayor William F. Murphy broke the tie by …

If approved, the unit would launch this summer with two Woodridge police officers devoted to traffic issues, including speeding, driving under the influence and seat belt enforcement.
Woodridge Trustee David Pittinger blasted a proposed Woodridge Police Department traffic unit, saying it would create village policy allowing officers to look into cars for seat belt enforcement and "grossly violate residents' privacy." The new unit, which the Woodridge Police Department hopes to establish by this summer, will be devoted to traffic issues, including speeding, driving under the influence and seat belt enforcement. The Village Board will vote on the proposed traffic unit at a future meeting. Trustees meet next on Thursday, March 22. "We get a lot of phone calls regarding speeding vehicles in their neighborhoods," Woodridge Police Chief Ken Boehm said. "We feel by having dedicated traffic officers we'll be able to provide a …

The village reported a $444,926 surplus in May and credits the increase to lower expenses and conservative revenue estimates.
Despite anticipating a deficit of $1.4 million from May 2010 to April 2011, the Village of Woodridge saw a surplus of $1.5 million during that time. The $1.5 million surplus is triple the $444,926 surplus the village reported in May for FY2011. May 1, 2010, to April 30, 2011, constitutes Fiscal Year 2011. The increased number is due to expenses being $600,000 lower than estimated and revenue being $$386,000 higher, according to village officials. Overall department expenses were $600,000 lower than the last estimate, according to Jack Knight, management analyst for the village. This was due to the following: The village received $386,000 more in income tax revenue than was estimated for the budget year, Knight said. There were also …
