The National Weather Service plays Santa Claus with a forecast that looks good for snow on Dec. 25.
If you love a white Christmas and you live in Darien or Woodridge, you just might be in luck in 2012. The National Weather Service-Chicago forecast for our neck of the woods calls for a slight chance of snow showers on Christmas eve (Monday, Dec. 24) and Christmas day (Tuesday, Dec. 25.) That, coupled with the small amount of snow that fell on Geneva Thursday and Friday, might translate to at least a little of the white stuff covering the ground and making the season a little more bright. The forecast indicates the snow could melt off, however, over the weekend. The high temperature for Saturday is 40 degrees, and it's supposed to get up to 38 degreees on Sunday. But after that: Merry Christmas to all in Darien and Woodridge!

For nearly 70 years, the Museum of Science and Industry has amazed visitors with its Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light displays. A massive 45-foot tree decked out with with more than 30,000 lights and 1,000 ornaments graces the museum's rotunda, while 50 smaller trees representing countries from Armenia to Wales surround it. The trees are decorated by volunteers from Chicago's various ethnic organizations and communities and feature decorations reflecting their diverse cultures and traditions. Armenia Children hang their handkerchiefs from the edge of the roof, then climb on to the the roof and sing. A favorite holiday treat.
Ingredients: 1 lb. butter 4 1/2 cups flour 6 tbsp. white sugar 1 1/2 cups pecans (finely chopped) 1 cup confectioners sugar 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Soften butter sticks then place in large bowl. Add 6 tbsp sugar. Mix together well with hands. Add flour and nuts a little bit at a time. Continue mixing until a dough ball is made. 3. Take 1 tsp of dough and roll into a horn (or crescent) shape. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Repeat until all the dough is used. Place cookie sheets in oven and bake for 20 minutes. 4. Remove cookies from oven and immediately place on cooling racks with wax paper underneath. 5. Fill confectioner sugar shaker with sugar and shake over cookies until completely covered. Makes 6 dozen
