Cheaper Gas? Dominick's and Mobil Create Rewards Program

Woodridge shoppers can save money at the pump using a new rewards points program.

Dominick’s and ExxonMobil have teamed up to provide shoppers a new way to save at the pump. According to a press release, Dominick’s shoppers and Mobil customers can now earn reward points for most products purchased at Dominick’s stores and redeem their points at participating Mobil locations. There's a sort of eldritch horror to big-box supercenters—heck, they pretty much admit it. Will any store step up and give us back that old personal shopping experience?

My daughter and I were in Walmart when she looked up at me and said, “Mom, I gotta get out of here. I can’t take any more.” We left with a cart full of items, unclear if any of them were what we went for.   Yes. The Walmart effect: In exchange for rollback prices, a piece of your soul. While we didn’t see any shoppers clad in leopard leggings, fishnet shirts or any other “inappro-pro” apparel, we weren’t there as cell phone camera wielding shopperazzi. Theft at Dominicks Someone was seen taking five video games for a Wii gaming system at Dominick's, 2363 63rd St., police said.  Purse Stolen at Brunswick Zone Someone took a purse while the owner was bowling at Brunswick Zone, 1555 75th St., around 5:30 p.m., police said. The purse and its contents are valued at $530. Laptop Stolen Someone took a laptop between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. from a residence in the 7200 block of Woodward Avenue, police said. Burglary Someone took various pieces of jewelry from a residence in the 9100 block of Talcott Road. The burglary was discovered around 10:20 a.m., police said. Police Blotter: $500 Worth of Alcohol, $200 Electronic Book Reader and Cordless Drill Batteries Stolen

Woodridge police reports, Oct. 23-25

Two people stole various bottles of alcohol from Dominick's, 2363 63rd St., around 10:50 p.m., police said. The alcohol was valued at about $500. Monica Sami, 26, from the 7700 block of Barclay in Darien, was arrested around 2 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to yield to avoid an accident and leaving an accident, following a hit-and- run accident near the intersection of 87th Street and Woodward Avenue, police said. Cecil Downs, 45, of the 5300 block of Main Street in Downers Grove, was arrested around 12:40 p.m. and charged with retail theft after he took two cordless drill batteries from Home Depot, 7200 Woodward Ave., police said.
