The Village of Woodridge is calling attention to some foreclosures in town that were later remodeled and sold for a higher value, a sign officials say demosstrated the value of investing in the community. "The past several years have been very difficult for homeowners," according to a village news release. "Like communities across the country, Woodridge has had its share of home foreclosures. However, a positive new trend has emerged in which foreclosed properties are being purchased, renovated and resold at values closer to pre-recession levels." See how the number of foreclosures in Woodridge from 2007-2010 compares with surrounding communities.
The number of foreclosure filings in Woodridge and its surrounding communities fell in 2011, according to the Woodstock Institute. That's the first time numbers declined since at least 2007, the earliest year posted on the non-profit's website. Filings in Woodridge jumped 81 percent from 2007 to 2008, levelled off from 2008 to 2009 and then jumped 37 percent from 2009 to 2010. Filings then fell 26 percent between the first half of 2010 and the first half of 2011. Bolingbrook, Darien, Downers Grove, Lisle and Naperville all saw increases from 2007 to 2010 and a decrease in 2011. While Darien, Lisle and Naperville saw a steady increase, listings in Bolingbrook and Downers Grove also plateaued between 2008 and 2009. Foreclosure filings …

Foreclosure filings and repossessions fell to their lowest levels since 2007 last year, but it might not be all good news.
National foreclosure filings fell to their lowest level since 2007 last year, according to CNN Money. Filings in Woodridge and the village's surrounding communities dropped, as well. Total filings in 2011, including default notices and bank repossessions, were down 33 percent to 2.7 million from last year, according to RealtyTrac. About 800,000 homes were repossessed in 2011, down from the 2010 peak of 1.05 million, according to CNN Money. There were 92 foreclosure filings during the first half of 2011 in Woodridge, according to Woodstock Institute, down 26.4 percent from the first half of 2010.
