Holocaust Survivor Coming to Rotary Club Meeting

Walter Reed, a Holocaust survivor, will speak in Woodridge on Feb. 12 about his experiences in Germany.

Walter Reed, Holocaust survivor and Rotary Club member, will be speaking to the Woodridge Rotary Club about his experiences in Germany before during and after the Holocaust.  He is a frequent speaker for the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Foundation.  The Wilmette Harbor Rotary Club, of which he has been a member for 22 years, has twice honored him as its Rotarian of the Year. Interested guests are welcome to join club members for lunch and the presentation. The lunch will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at the Rotary Club of Woodridge 1 Mulligan Dr. It's free to attend.  Rotary is an international, humanitarian service organization whose motto is "Service Above Self."  The Woodridge Club has been giving back to the local community …

Holocaust Survivor Tells Her Story

Magda Brown spoke at the Woodridge Public Library Wednesday as part of the Food for Thought speaker series.

Magda Brown was 17 when she was transported to Auschwitz with thousands of other Hungarian Jews.  Brown shared her story with dozens of people at the Woodridge Public Library Wednesday as part of the Woodridge Diversity Committee's "Food for Thought" series.   Food for Thought brings guest speakers every other month to the library to share their life stories. Brown spoke of growing up in Hungary during Nazi rule, of people losing their jobs because they were Jewish and the government taking away her family's property. Her home became part of a Jewish ghetto.  "The Nazi's crammed people all in one house," Brown said. "Our house had all kinds of people. I was a spoiled child, so I didn't want to share. Tonight's Events: Super Stolie Children's Show and Holocaust Speaker

Both events take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

If you're looking for something to do Wednesday night in Woodridge, you have two very different options.  The Super Stolie Children's Show is a "high-energy, interactive music and movement performance that gets kids thinking, guessing, and singing about everything from spelling to animals, numbers, shapes and sounds while they move and shake to get all their wiggles out," according to the event's description.  The show is hosted by the Woodridge Park District and will take place in Westminster Park at 7 p.m.  Also starting at 7 p.m., Holocaust survivor Magda Brown will share her story at the Woodridge Public Library.  The event is part of the Food for Thought series, hosted by the Woodridge Diversity Committee.  Brown will share her story…
