Will County now has three confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus this summer. DuPage County has 19.
A Bolingbrook woman in her mid-50s has been diagnosed with West Nile Virus, according to the Will County Health Department. She was hospitalized September 1, two days after reporting fever, headaches, vomiting, and visual complaint. She was discharged from hospital September 6, and her illness has been classified as West Nile Virus fever. Two human cases—one in Bolingbrook and one in Crest Hill—were reported Tuesday. That brings Will County's West Nile Virus count to three. A Romeoville woman was diagnosed with West Nile Virus last month. She is in her early 40s and reportedly experienced a range of symptoms, including a fever, stiff neck, rash, acute sensitivity to light and confusion. The DuPage County Health Department announced on Monday that there are now 17 human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) in DuPage County. Those affected by WNV are in their 20s-70s, and are located in Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Naperville, Villa Park and Westmont. Two of those 17 cases resulted in fatalities related to WNV infection. On Aug. 18, Lombard Village President Bill Mueller, 76, became the first West Nile fatality in DuPage County. A 64-year-old man from Elgin also succumbed to the disease on Aug. 23. Additional cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed since last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
The DuPage County Health Department continues to urge residents to take precautions to minimize the risk of mosquito bites. The latest request comes as the health department said additional cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in DuPage County. The count has risen to 12 with cases of the virus confirmed in residents from Carol Stream, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Naperville, Villa Park and Westmont. Woodridge's contractor, Clarke Environmental Mosquito Control, conducted a village-wide mosquito spray for adult mosquitoes after dusk last night. The DuPage County Health Department announced on Monday that there are now seven human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) in DuPage County. Those affected by WNV are in their 40s-70s, and are located in Carol Stream, Downers Grove, Lisle, Lombard, Naperville and Villa Park. The DuPage County Health Department has reported the second human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in DuPage County in 2012. A Villa Park man in his 50s has contracted the virus, according to a release from the health department.
