IHSA announced the first-round playoff pairings for the state football playoffs Saturday night.

Teams are split into eight classes of 32 schools each based on enrollment. Class 1A is the schools with the lowest enrollment, and Class 8A has the highest. Downers Grove North will look to take home the annual "Old Oaken Bucket" trophy as it takes on conference rival Hinsdale Central at home Friday. The Old Oaken Bucket game dates back to October 1935, when Hinsdale created a "Little Brown Jug" rivalry for its game against Downers Grove. Each year, the teams play not only for bragging rights, but to keep possession of the bucket. The Trojans controlled the series for the first 16 years—winning 10 and tying two—but the Red Devils took control in 1951 and won 20 consecutive games. After 77 years, Hinsdale leads the series with 43-31, with three games ending in ties. Downers Grove (5-2, 2-2), which hasn't controlled the bucket since 2006, will host Hinsdale Central (5-2, 2-2) at 7:30 p.m. at …
