Downers Grove South and Downers Grove North high schools will play for town bragging rights Friday night as they hit the field for their annual gridiron showdown. The Trojans (3-1, 1-1) will host the Mustangs (1-3, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. at Carstens Field, 4436 Main St. Through High School Cube, we are able to bring you a live stream of the game. Downers Grove South will look to bounce back from last week's disappointing season opener as it takes on Lyons Township on Friday. The Mustangs (0-1) will host the Lions (0-1) at 7:30 p.m. at South High School, 1436 Norfolk St. Last week, Downers Grove lost 48-35 to South Elgin, while Lyons fell 35-28 to Stevenson. Downers Grove North will head to Morton on Friday night for Game 2 of the 2012 football season. Last week, the Trojans (1-0) beat Lockport 27-7, giving the Porter their first season-opener loss since 2002. Morton (1-0) also picked up their first victory of the season last week, defeating the Chicago Perspectives team 34-6. Downers Grove will look to repeat its success from last year, when it beat the Mustangs 49-0. Friday's game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Morton's football stadium, located at 2400 Home Ave. in Berwyn. Downers Grove South beat Homewood-Flossmoor 6-0 Tuesday in the 3A Lisle Supersectional.
The Downers Grove South girls soccer team will compete in the IHSA 3A state semifinal Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune. The team (19-5-3) beat Homewood-Flossmoor 6-0 Tuesday in the 3A Lisle Supersectional. The Mustangs will take on St. Charles North at 7 p.m. Friday at North Central College. "Confidence is really high, but we can't get too cocky or anything," DGS Soccer Player Sarah Ludwig told the Trib. "We know what we have to do." The Downers Grove South boys tennis team earned 11th overall at the IHSA state meet last week.
Three of the six Downers Grove South boys tennis players who advanced to the IHSA state meet last week earned All-State Honors. In singles, Joey Leto (41-5), senior captain, won three main draw matches and captured his third All-State selection in as many years. On the doubles court, Cody Freischlag (41-6), junior captain, and his senior partner captain Connor Harmon (41-6) also won three main draw matches as well. It was the third All-State selection for Freischlag and second for Harmon. All six players fought through a 128-player field in both singles and doubles. The team finished 11th in the state as Junior Jon Artus (25-7), Senior Kiernan Cavanagh (27-14) and Freshman Tony Leto (21-7) all won one main draw match. The conference and …

Downers Grove South took first in its IHSA sectional this weekend, while Downers Grove North took second.
Downers Grove South qualified all six of its sectional players for state at its sectional meet Saturday, taking the sectional championship title for the fourth straight year. It was also the fourth year that DGS qualified all of its players for state. In singles competition, Senior Captain Joey Leto took on Tony Leto, little brother and freshman, in a "friendly family feud" 6-2, and 6-1. In doubles, Senior Captain Connor Harmon and partner Junior Captain Cody Freischlag won a hotly contested doubles final over teammates Senior Captain Kiernan Cavanagh and Junior Jon Artus 7-6 (4), 6-2.
