Tea Party Group Protests Outside IRS Office in Downers Grove

Dozens rallied along Butterfield Road Tuesday following revelations that the Internal Revenue Service placed additional scrutiny on the tea party and other conservative groups.

Dozens of tea party activists rallied outside the Internal Revenue Service office in Downers Grove on Tuesday to protest the tax agency's improper targeting of conservative groups. The crowd stood along Butterfield Road, just outside the Esplanade office building, for more than an hour, waving "Don't Tread on Me" flags and chanting anti-IRS slogans. Some activists held signs calling for the IRS to be abolished and likened the agency's actions to Nazi Germany. The Tea Party Patriots organized more than 100 protests at IRS offices across the country Tuesday afternoon. In Illinois, protests were held in Downers Grove, Chicago, Rockford and Springfield. "Our purpose is to bring awareness across the country about the disturbing and illegal …

To fully understand the situation requires a bit of context and history, of which you have a grasp of neither, Freddy. The real crux of this "scandal" is that ALL 501(c)4's are utterly bogus. Washington should use this opportunity to reform the tax code. Naturally, it won't happen.   more ›

When Can I File My 2012 Tax Return?

The IRS has announced a delayed start to the 2012 tax filing season. Here's the date of when you can file, plus some locations in or near Woodridge where you can get help on your taxes.

You'll have to wait if you are used to filing your annual tax return at the earliest possible date. The Internal Revenue Service has revised its opening date for tax season — pushing it back eight days to Jan. 30, 2013. The tax filing deadline is Monday, April 15, 2013. You can blame the delay on the federal "fiscal cliff" crisis and the new tax bill Congress passed just after Dec. 31. You can find more information in this Forbes article. Electronic filing season was originally set to start on Jan. 22 this year. As a result of the delay, nobody will get a refund in …

Woodridge Non-Profits Lose Tax-Exempt Status

Thirteen organizations in Woodridge were placed on a list by the IRS by failing to file an annual return.

More than a dozen Woodridge non-profits were included in an Internal Revenue Service list of Illinois organizations whose tax-exempt status was automatically revoked due to failure to file an annual return. Here is the list of Woodridge organizations whose tax-exempt statuses were revoked:  The full list, released June 8, includes 275,000 agencies nationally that lost their tax status after failing to file a return for three consecutive years. The loss of tax-exempt status means that anyone who makes a donation cannot claim it on the following year’s tax return. According to the IRS list, each of the agencies had its tax-exempt status automatically revoked, effective May 15, 2010.  Dean Patterson, who works in media relations for the IRS, …

I would like to comment on the Knights of Columbus listing on the list. I know you are just reporting from the list, but the local Knights of Columbus, Council # 5918 is not the Council in Question. The Council in Question is a Council from Chicago that has a member living in Woodridge where the paperwork is being filed. I do not even know of a Greenwood Lane in Woodridge (I believe the lists …   more ›
