Show Off Your Skills at the Woodridge Park District Skate Park Contest

Show off your best skateboarding tricks and win prizes at the June 8 competition.

Show off your best skateboarding tricks at the Woodridge Park District Skate Park Contest. The contest will take place on Friday, June 8, at the Janes Avenue Skate Park, 7927 Janes Avenue. All skate contestants will be guaranteed one qualifying one-minute run for the crowd and judges. Top scorers from the first run will then skate in a second and final deciding run. Prizes are a skate board for first place, a truck for second place and wheels for third place. All participants must wear a helmet. Snacks and beverages will be provided and music will be played to help the crowd cheer on the skaters. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m. Divisions will be separated by ages 8-14, high schoolers and adults. The cost is $10…

Woodridge Park District Weighs Two Locations for Athletic Recreation Center

Orchard Hill Park, Janes Avenue TIF lot both being considered for construction project.

Two Janes Avenue locations are currently being considered for the future site of the Woodridge Park District athletic recreation center.  The center, as currently proposed, would offer courts, turf fields, batting cages, fitness and strength rooms, multi-purpose and computer rooms, an elevated track, a café and aerobic fitness rooms.  It would house the park district’s summer camp, Woodridge Community Resource Center and Kidz Squad programs as well as offer space for traveling teams and other groups to rent turf and court space. Pending park district board approval, construction could begin in 2014 and the center could be completed in 2015. Read more about the center here. I think that it would make sense to consolidate the recreational facilities. I vote for the Orchard Hill location as long as parking would not be an issue...I would not like to see the overflow of Cypress cove patrons parking in the Rec Center lot...   more ›

5 Things to do This Weekend

Toy Story 3 in Janes Avenue Park, a car wash to benefit Autism Speaks and Ladies Night Out.

1. Toy Story 3 Screened at Janes Avenue Park (Friday) Enjoy Toy Story 3 for free in Janes Avenue Park. Show starts at 8:30 p.m. Patch will be there handing out balloons and popsicles. Come see us and say hi!  2. Super Smash Brothers Melee and Brawl Teams Tournament (Friday) The tournament, at the Woodridge Public Library, is for those 10 to 18.
