Schwinger Memorial Soccer Tournament to Fund Soccer Athletes in Need

The early bird deadline is July 14 for the Aug. 18 tournament.

Registration is now open for the sixth annual Schwinger Memorial 4v4 Tournament.  The fundraiser honors Joe Schwinger, a former Woodridge Storm Coach who died in a 2007 car accident at the age of 44. Schwinger helped the Woodridge Storm develop into what it has become today, said his wife, Alice.  Soccer wasn’t Joe Schwinger’s initial sport-of-choice for his two sons. As a college baseball player, he first encouraged his children to play baseball. But they didn’t want to play baseball. They wanted to play soccer. So Schwinger started coaching soccer with Woodridge Storm. He came from a soccer family – his cousin is Willy Roy, a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Jefferson Girls Soccer Team Ends Season 9-0

The girls took first in conference with an undefeated season.

The Jefferson Jr. High School girls soccer team ended their season undefeated Wednesday, defeating Eisenhower Jr. High School 3-0.  The team has also clinched the SDEAA conference championship. It was the first time in three years Jefferson topped its conference. The Wolverines tied for first place two years ago.  During the nine games played this year, Jefferson scored 54 goals and allowed only two. Simone Gardner and Lexi Dimovski each scored 22.  Coach Jennifer Riskus credits the team's success to the girls' flexibility.  "Everybody played well both in and out of position (this season)," Riskus said. "We had some injuries and had to move people around. I think everybody stepped up and played very well."  The soccer team is made up of …

Jefferson Girls Soccer Team, Boys Volleyball Team Undefeated

See the Wolverines are doing in soccer, softball, volleyball, swimming and track and field.

From the track and field team recruiting more than 100 students to compete to undefeated girls soccer and boys volleyball teams, get a spring athletic update from Jefferson Jr. High School.  Girls Soccer: The Lady Wolverine Soccer Team is currently undefeated with a 6-0 record. The team has defeated Old Quarry, Lakeview, Butler, Gower, Westview Hills and Lisle. The girls are led by mid-fielder Grace Maletich and forwards Lexi Dimovski and Simone Gardner. Lexi and Simone have both scored over 15 goals each in their first 6 games. The girls soccer program is coached by Jen Riskus and Gail Hartig. Woodridge School District 68 Puts Chromebooks in the Classroom

The district ordered 100 computers for use at Jefferson Jr. High and Willow Creek Elementary Schools.

Woodridge School District 68 students at Jefferson Jr. High School and Willow Creek Elementary School have some new tools in the classroom. The district purchased about 100 Google Chromebooks this year. Sixty of the books, which are Google’s personal computers, are at Jefferson. Thirty are at Willow Creek and 10 more have been given to staff members to use. Check out what a Chromebook looks like here.  The Chromebooks don’t require the district to load software for word processing or spreadsheets. Instead, users access Google Chrome apps online, which include Google Docs. The functionality of the Chromebooks are limited without Internet access. You raise interesting points about the benefits of the Chromebook for education. However some institutions will still require access to Windows applications. In order to extend the benefits of Chromebooks schools will need to provide quick and easy browser-based access to these Windows applications and also to virtual desktops. Jefferson Singers Present "A Benefit Against Bullying"

All proceeds for the Wednesday concert will go to PACER National Bullying Prevention Center.

The Jefferson Singers of Jefferson Jr. High School will present a benefit concert Wednesday to support the PACER National Bullying Prevention Center. The concert will start at 7 p.m. at 7 p.m. in the Jefferson main gym. At Jefferson, choir is an extra-curricular activity. The Jefferson Singers consist of 20 to 30 students and are led by Alex Buda. The group decided last fall to put on a benefit concert. Buda decided to have the concert benefit an anti-bullying organization after attending a workshop on cyberbullying at the Illinois Holocaust Museum last month. "What really struck me is how many people still don't know about cyberbullying," Buda said. The concert will feature songs such as “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, “Perfect” by …

100 Students Inducted into Jefferson's New National Junior Honor Society

The students were inducted into the society Wednesday night.

Jefferson Girls Basketball Team Has Perfect Season

The Jefferson Jr. High School girls varsity basketball team went 24-0 and clinched the conference championship Friday night.

The Jefferson Jr. High School girls varsity basketball team finished a perfect season with a conference championship Friday night. The girls beat the Butler Jr. High School Vikings 43-25. Jefferson went 24-0 this season and 18-0 in conference. Undefeated Jefferson Girls in Basketball Conference Championship Tonight

The Jefferson Jr. High School girls varsity basketball team will take on Butler at Jefferson tonight.

Can the Jefferson Jr. High School girls varsity basketball team go 24-0? We'll find out tonight at the SDEAA conference championship. Jefferson Jr. High (23-0) will play Butler Jr. High School at 6 p.m. at Jefferson. Jefferson topped the large-school division of its conference; Butler topped the small-school division. After playing two playoff games this week, Jefferson is 17-0 in conference. It's only the second time in school history Jefferson has gone undefeated in conference. It just so happens that the first was last year. Jefferson lost just one game in the 2010-2011 season, finishing with a 25-1 record, two tournament championships and the conference championship.  Mostly eighth-graders compete on the team, so the team is full of …

The Jefferson Jr. High School junior varsity boys basketball team went a perfect 10-0 in its conference this season.  The boys topped their SDEAA conference, which includes Burr Ridge Middle School (Burr Ridge), Butler Jr. High (Oak Brook), Cass Jr. High (Darien), Eisenhower Jr. High (Darien), Gower Middle School (Burr Ridge), Lakeview Jr. High (Downers Grove), Lisle Jr. High (Lisle), Old Quarry (Lemont), Westmont Jr. High (Westmont) and Westview Hills Middle School (Clarendon Hills).
