The band traveled across the pond to perform in London's New Year's Day Parade and Festival.
Members of the North High School Trojan Marching Band are back in Downers Grove today after a week in London, where they were one of 10 American bands to perform in the city's New Years Day Parade and Festival. Some 170 band members made the trip, accompanied by their directors, chaperones and family members who chose to "tag-along." They arrived in Chicago Sunday afternoon and evening. An estimated 500,000 people lined the streets of London for the parade, with 220 million more viewing the broadcast of the event. The DGN band also was featured in a two-minute television spot, in which they performed Journey's "Anyway You Want It." Only six days remain until 167 members of the Downers Grove North High School marching band take off for London. That's most of the Trojan Marching Band, which is typically made up of 190 to 200 students, said North High Fine Arts Department Chair Brayer Teague. North was one of 10 American marching bands invited to perform in London's New Year's Day Parade and Festival. According to Teague, about 500,000 people are expected to watch the parade in person. About 220 million people are expected to watch the parade on television. Students, directors and chaperones will leave next Sunday for a week-long trip filled with sight-seeing and two major performances.
