Leap-Year Babies Born at Good Sam

Babies born to Chicago, Woodridge parents on Feb. 29

From Good Sam: It’s a day that only comes once every four years: Leap Day. And now it happens to be the day Naomi Logan and Ronald Parmele were born. Parents, Lindsay and Craig Parmele, were surprised when their bundle of joy arrived a few weeks early at 10 am this morning. Ronald Allen entered the world on a special but confusing day of Feb. 29. The Parmeles live in downtown Chicago and have seen the same physician for ten years in Downers Grove. And although there are many hospitals close to their home, they chose to make the trek to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital to ensure their first born was delivered by their physician, Dr. Vipal Arora. “It was definitely a surprise,” said Lindsay. “We weren’t expecting him for another 15 days or …

Keep Dreaming on a White Christmas

The National Weather Service is now forecasting no snow on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Updated: Thursday at noon. Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? Dream on.  After predicting a slight chance of snow on Christmas Eve, the National Weather Service is now forecasting throughout the holiday weekend. Christmas Day's forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high around 41 degrees. That night, temperatures are expected to fall to the low-20s, but still no precipitation expected. Chicago's lack of snowy weather is part of a national trend, the Huffington Post report continues, as AccuWeather points out: only about 20 percent of the country is expected to have snow on the ground Sunday, while last year, approximately half of the country experienced a white Christmas.  Last year, the Chicago-area received less than an inch …

I am excited to hear that it won't be a snowy Christmas. It keeps my husband home with his family opening presents and making memories instead of being on the street, getting yelled at by impatient drivers, as he tries to clear the snow off of the streets for their safety.   more ›

Political Rewind: Past Salary Info No Longer on Illinois Transparency Website

It's always good to be caught up on state politics. Here's an easy guide to what happened this week.

Editor's Note: This article was created by aggregating news articles from Illinois Statehouse News that were written by various Illinois Statehouse News reporters. Past salary info no longer on IL transparency website Illinois has a limit to how much information it is willing to share with the public on its transparency website.  The state’s transparency portal, created in the spring of 2010, no longer carries state employees’ salaries from 2008, 2009 and 2010.  "This last summer we went on the website looking for past salary information, and noticed it was no longer there," said Mark Cavers, a government reform policy analyst with think tank Illinois Policy Institute, or IPI. "(The state) took the extra step of taking this information …

I agree as well. A good reporter, especially a retired author, should know to get the facts first. It appears that they didn't even look at the criteria for the scholarship before printing the story. It's a great example of bad reporting.   more ›

Political Rewind: State's Promise to Pay Not a Guarantee

It's always good to be caught up on state politics. Here's an easy guide to what happened this week.

Editor's Note: This article was created by aggregating news articles from Illinois Statehouse News that were written by various Illinois Statehouse News reporters. Cost of tax breaks up as support wanes A tax break package meant to boost a business community hit by the Great Recession could cost the state $848 million in just three years. The only funding source specifically outlined to date for the package is a change to the Illinois tax code that would bring in $571 million next year and $354 million in 2013 before running dry.  At the same time, the provisions would cost more and more. By 2014, the state would face $848 million in lost tax revenue, a number that would only grow.  But that’s assuming no significant jobs are added or …

It was fun, and yes they managed to get all their stuff put away afterward. So I am really not sure why this changed, my memory is…   more ›
