Trustee Susan Burtnette passed away on Sunday just two weeks after winning election to the Board of the Village for which she had such a great passion.
Woodridge trustee-elect Susan Burtnette died on Sunday morning from lung cancer, two weeks after being narrowly elected to the Village Board, the Suburban Life reports. "Woodridge was a very big part of her heart and soul," Burtnette's son Brad told the paper, explaining that involvement in Woodridge government was one of her life goals. "She was extremely dedicated to the community and her church." According to the paper, Burtnette, who worked for Edward Jones, suffered a stroke two days before the April 9 election, but was aware that she had accomplished her dream of winning a seat. The Village of Woodridge is mourning the loss of the longtime resident.
Story updated at 4:10 p.m. Friday: Former Woodridge mayor Joel Kagann died Thursday, Feb. 7, village officials announced Friday. Kagann was born Sept. 16, 1936. Visitation is set for Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Blake Lamb Funeral Home at 5015 Lincoln Ave. in Lisle. Visitation will also take place Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Scholastica Parish at 7800 Janes Ave. in Woodridge, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. Scholastica. No criminal charges will be filed in the death of 15-year-old Hunter Himes, who died Sunday from brain injuries sustained when his bicycle was hit by a car in Darien.
No criminal charges will be filed in the death of Downers Grove teen Hunter Himes, who was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Darien in February 2012. Hunter, then 14, was riding his bike along Lemont Road in Darien when he was hit by an SUV making a right turn from Beller Drive. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, one that left him in a persistent vegetative state until he died Sunday morning in his home. Obituary: Hunter Himes, 15 The driver in the crash, Timothy J. Hagan of Darien, was found guilty in November of failing to yield to a pedestrian, despite his claim that Hunter road his bike into the crosswalk after he started moving. Donald F. Lawrence, 81, of Woodridge, died recently. The U.S. Marine Corps. veteran served in the Korean War and was also a graphic artist at Illinois Bell, according to his obituary on Legacy.com. A memorial visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at Anderson Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
