The American Cancer Society will host its annual kickoff party Wednesday for Relay For Life of Downers Grove/Woodridge. Festivities will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ballydoyle Pub, 5157 Main St. in Downers Grove. Friends, neighbors, cancer survivors, caregivers and anyone interested in learning more about Relay For Life are encouraged to attend. The kick-off event offers information about the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives faster by helping people stay well, helping people get well, finding cures and fighting back. Organizers say they hope the weather cooperates for the Downers Grove/Woodridge Relay for Life to take place outside Hinsdale South.
The Relay for Life of Downers Grove and Woodridge is scheduled to take place on the Hinsdale South football field tonight. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved around the corner to the Darien Sportsplex at 451 Plainfield Road. The Relay For Life celebrates cancer survivors, remembers lost loved ones and brings people together to fight back against the disease. There will be live music, food and fun activities for all ages at the event, which starts at 6 tonight. The kick-off celebration for the Downers Grove/Woodridge Relay for Life will take place at the Doubletree Guest Suites and Conference Center in Downers Grove.

The event raises cancer awareness and funds for cancer research, education and patient services.
Free and open to the public, the Woodridge and Downers Grove Relay for Life celebration kicks off at 6 p.m. tonight at Hinsdale South High School. The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is a 24-hour community event which not only raises money to fight cancer, but also celebrates those who have survived and remembers those we have tragically lost from the horrible disease. So far, 49 teams and 354 participants have raised approximately $55,000. More money will be raised through raffles and various crafts and vendors. WLS radio hosts Dave Fogel and Marty Jones will kick off the opening ceremony. Joan Ackerman, Donna Ciolek and Vicki Tuch, members of Ruth's Rugrats/Miles for Missy Partners Relay for Life Team, held their annual boutique fundraiser on Saturday Feb. 5. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society for research, education and prevention programs as part of a Relay for Life event from June 10 to 11. Relay for Life celebrates cancer survivors and remembers those lost to cancer. Boutique shoppers were treated to a festive setting and were provided with information on how they can become more actively involved with starting their own Relay teams.
