There will be a familiar face on the November ballot for the Illinois House’s 82nd District. Incumbent State Rep. Jim Durkin won the district’s Republican nomination with 75.4 percent of the vote, defeating challenger Laura Reigle. Mitt Romney stopped in Wheaton for an unpublicized private reception at a home in the 1400 block of Forest Avenue Tuesday night. Romney, awaiting the results of Illinois' Republican presidential primary, greeted children and other neighbors who gathered outside waving American flags and chanting “Mitt for President!” as he arrived. It’s been relatively quiet in the 82nd District leading up to Tuesday’s Republican primary. But with hours left before the election, Illinois Rep. DuPage County Republic Party Chairman Randy Ramey pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol this morning and was fined $1,750, TribLocal is reporting. Ramey, stepson of former Senate President James "Pate" Phillip, was arrested in the early-morning hours of Aug. 30 after Carol Stream police saw him driving erratically. He reportedly registered a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. Ramey took the helm of the DuPage County GOP in July, filling the unexpired term of DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin of Elmhurst.

A Channahon Republican announced his intentions to run for U.S. Congress over the weekend, according to a Morris Daily Herald report. Chris Balkema, a Grundy County board member and longtime employee of Caterpillar in Joliet, will run for the new 11th Congressional District, which covers portions of Channahon, Shorewood, Oswego, Montgomery, Plainfield, Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Darien and Naperville among other communities.
