Attention high school seniors: it's scholarship application time. The Woodridge Area Chamber of Commerce awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors planning to attend a business, two-year or four-year college. A scholarship is also available to a graduating high school senior or current student furthering their education at a vocational, technical or trade school. Scholarship application packets are available to download from the Chamber’s website: www.woodridgechamber.org or by visiting the College & Career Center at Downers Grove North and Downers Grove South. The village of Woodridge will award up to five $1,000 scholarships to current high school seniors.
Every bit helps when it comes to covering the cost of college, and the Village of Woodridge is looking to award up to five $1,000 scholarships to current high school seniors. According to the village's website, the village is teamed up with ProLogis Foundation to award the scholarships to seniors attending college in the fall. The scholarship brochure lists the following as primary criteria for the scholarships: Scholarship applications are judged by a panel of educators selected by Woodridge Mayor William Murphy. The Woodridge Rotary Club has selected Ritika Dhawan and Alexa Nakutis as winners of its 2012 “Service Above Self” college scholarship awards. These annual scholarships provide financial support to Woodridge students who have made exceptional service contributions to their community. Dhawan was honored for her leadership role in the Rotary Interact Club at Lemont High School. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 through 18. Dhawan participated in the Interact Club’s service projects which included working at the Ronald McDonald House and at the Hope and Friendship Ministries, conducting food drives, providing baby blankets for underprivileged children and visiting various senior homes. Barbara Budach, a Downers Grove North senior, is the 2012 recipient of the Woodridge Junior Women's Club scholarship.
Woodridge. Kenya. The Dominican Republic. Barbara Budach has made her mark in each. Budach, a Downers Grove North senior, received the 2012 Woodridge Junior Women's Club scholarship. She currently serves as the creative partnership and fundraising chair for AFROCKA, a nonprofit raising funds and awareness for those in need in Africa. Its biggest fundraiser is an annual rock concert. AFROCKA's current focus is helping those affected by severe drought in East Africa. Budach has completed several mission trips to the Dominican Republic, where she worked in medical clinics, held bible study, built churches and worked as a translator. The Woodridge Chamber of Commerce recently recognized Naperville North Senior Kathryn Wylly as its 2012 scholarship recipient. Each year, the chamber offers scholarships to students planning to attend a business college, two-year college, or four-year university. Applicants must live in Woodridge through their date of graduation from high school, have a parent or guardian who is a member of the chamber or attend a school that's a member of the chamber to qualify. Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors living in Woodridge from the village and the ProLogis Foundation. The scholarships are awarded based on Woodridge residency, good citizenship, leadership potential, community or campus involvement and academic excellence. Scholarship applications are judged by a panel of educators and selected by Mayor William F. Murphy. Seniors can find scholarship information in their guidance office, at Village Hall or online. Kohl's is accepting nominations for outstanding young volunteers from Feb. 1 to March 15 for its 2012 Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program. You can nominate volunteers ages 6 to 18 at kohlskids.com. You must be 21 years or older to nominate someone. Two nominees from each Kohl's store will win a $50 Kohl's gift card. More than 200 of the store winners will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward post-secondary education.
