School District will have flexibility to decide whether to take days off for Lincoln’s Birthday and Casimir Pulaski, Martin Luther King, Columbus and Veterans days.
The Woodridge School District 68 Board of Education Monday night approved a waiver request for five holidays designated by Illinois school code as days off for students and teachers. The waiver would a modify a state law that says teachers can’t be required to work on legal school holidays. The board proposes a waiver application for an "all-purpose holiday," which could translate to regular class schedules and attendance, but also include parent-teacher conferences, school improvement session, teacher in-service days or teacher institutes, according to the District 68 website. Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Administration Patrick Broncato said the district had already waived Lincoln’s Birthday and Casimir Pulaski Day in 2009. …

Ruggio was elected to succeed Ann Schweizer as president of the District 68 Board of Education.
Woodridge School District 68 held its re-organization meeting Monday night, electing a new president and re-electing its vice president and secretary. The board installed its new members, Patti Cash and Scott Salerno, during the meeting. Cash and Salerno are filling the spots of Ann Schweizer and Dean Nicol. Schweizer served 12 years on the board and was its former president. Nicol served four years on the board. Suzyn Price, the most experienced board member, will seek a third term.
The last of three incumbent school board members filed a petition to run as a candidate for the Naperville School District 203 Board of Education election, which will be held on April 5, 2011. Suzyn Price filed her petition Wednesday, said Ann Bell, board of education secretary. The seven-member board has three seats that need to be filled in the election. Bell said that prior to filing, eight packets were picked up. Candidates to file include board members Price, Terry Fielden and current Board President Mike Jaensch. Fielden and Jaensch filed on Monday. Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Dec. 20 to turn in their materials, so it is possible more people will file, Bell said.
