Woodridge Park District Offers Skateboard Camp

The camp in Woodridge will take place July 23-27.

Beginner and intermediate skateboarders are invited to attend Woodridge Park District's "Go Skate" Skateboarding Camp at Janes Avenue Skate Park.  The Woodridge skateboard camp is instructed by "Go Skate," a leading provider of skateboard lessons.  Two camps will be offered from July 23 to 27: one for 6- to 10-year-olds and another for those 8-year-olds and up. Skateboarders will get comfortable in the skate park, as well as learn cool tricks like ollies, kick flips and how to ride the ramp.  The 6- to 10-year-old camp will run from 9 to 10:15 a.m. and cost $80 for residents and $100 for nonresidents.  The 8-year-old and older camp will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and cost $130 for residents and $150 for nonresidents.  The …

Skate Park Showing Signs of Wear and Tear

The concrete at Jane Avenue Skate Park has started to crack.

If you've been visiting Janes Avenue Skate Park recently, you may have noticed some slight damage in the concrete. The cracking and spalling, the breaking up, flaking and pitting of concrete began as quickly as a few days after the original concrete placement when the park opened in September. "The contractor attributes the problem to the concrete finishing technique being over worked," said Mike Adams, Woodridge Park District executive director. "That results in a thin, weak coat of concrete at the surface consequently resulting in cracking and spalling." The park, located at 7927 Janes Ave., has temporarily been repaired by the contractor fixing the areas with a concrete patch.  Skateboarders, in-line skaters and BMX bikers need not …

Woodridge Opens Park Just for Skaters

Woodridge Park District dedicates skate park at Janes Avenue Park

In the midst of an energetic frenzy of skaters whizzing around ramps, along rails and in an empty pool, the Woodridge Park District officially opened its new, lighted skate park Thursday night. Though the ceremony marked the dedication of the park, skaters took advantage of the park after the construction fence was taken down earlier this week. The skate park, built next to the in-line hockey rink at Janes Avenue Park, was designed with the help and input from a volunteer planning committee made up of young local skaters, skateboarders and bikers.  The 14-person committee was recruited by Park District Executive Director Mike Adams. Members of the committee were honored at the opening with T-shirts and a plaque posted in the park.  The …

Attention Skaters: Your Park Has Arrived

Youngsters helped design the new facility, which opens Sept. 16 at Janes Avenue Park

Woodridge has facilities for basketball, volleyball, soccer, and in-line hockey. Now the village will have a place for skaters, skateboarders and bikers to show off their stuff, too. Woodridge will dedicate its new skate park on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at Janes Avenue Park next to the in-line hockey rink. The park's opening is exciting news for skaters like Collin Gum, 13, of Downers Grove. "We get yelled at and told to move away from streets," Gum said. "We obey. But we want there to be a place to skate and not have to worry to get yelled at." He frequents skating parks in Bolingbrook, Glen Ellyn, Westmont and Schaumburg. But his dream has been to skate near his home in Woodridge. "There's not so much around here and that's why I …

Thanks Woodridge Patch for reporting on this hot topic. I have to say as a Mom of 2 skaters, I think Woodridge's new skate park was what we needed in the area. Now the kids are thinking of an indoor skate park as the weather turns cooler. Something to think about Woodridge :)   more ›
