Letter: Village Lauds Local Business Community

In 2012, several Woodridge businesses moved into larger spaces.

Editor's note: The following is a news release from the Village of Woodridge. In 2012 Woodridge experienced several existing businesses in the Village either expand at their existing locations or move into new buildings to meet their operational needs.  The Village has had a long history of promoting local business expansions, such as the Morey Corporation, Home Run Inn Pizza, Wilton Industries, Hendrickson International, and Follett Educational Services. Last year, Woodridge also experienced the relocation of several existing businesses into larger spaces within the village – which includes Intelligrated (designer, manufacture, and installer of complete material handling automation solutions), Indiana Sugars (manufacturer and distributor …

Obama's 'You Didn't Build That' Business Comments: Is He Wrong?

The president's small-business comments upset many people and gave Republican Mitt Romney a point of attack. But Barack Obama said the comments were taken out of context. What do you think? Take the Patch Poll.

President Barack Obama's recent comments about small business created a firestorm that could become a focus of the 2012 election — even as Obama and his supporters say his comments were taken out of context.  "Look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own," he said during a July 13 speech in Virginia. "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help ... If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen." Take the Patch poll below: Who plays the most significant role in creating jobs and economic growth? That's not the entire speech, which you can read on the independent FactCheck.org. Career Change Leads to Happiness, Local Chiro Practice for DGN Grad

29-year-old Kurt Brewer, who grew up in Woodridge, recently opened Synergy Rehabs on Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove.

When Kurt Brewer decided he wanted to change careers, he didn't have to look far to find a new direction. His grandfather was a doctor, his dad worked in health care and his brother was a chiropractor, making Brewer's switch from hospitality management to chiropractor an easy one. Now, after working with his brother in Chicago for a year, the 29-year-old Brewer has opened a practice in Downers Grove, subletting office space from long-time chiropractor Todd Bowers on Ogden Avenue in the same building as the Charter One Bank branch west of Main Street. “I wanted to find somewhere local where I could give back to the area I grew up in,” said Brewer, who grew up in Woodridge and attended North High. He now lives in Downers Grove. Brewer said …

Q&A: Patriot Landscape Group, Inc.

Fred Tuck and Dave Jelinek, a former Marine Corp., grew up in Woodridge and started doing landscaping projects as Eagle Scouts in troop 512.

The owners of Patriot Landscaping have a long Woodridge history.  Fred Tuck and Dave Jelinek have been best friends since kindergarten. They went to both John L. Sipley Elementary School and Jefferson Jr. High School together.  They were Eagle Scouts together in troop 512. That's when they first became involved with home projects.  "A lot of work came from troop members," Jelinek said.  Throughout high school they did small landscaping jobs, he said. After Jelinek graduated from Downers Grove South, he joined the Marine Corps. He served three tours in Iraq, something he spoke to Jefferson Jr. High School students about in November.  Two years into his service he and Tuck decided to start their company. It wasn't easy.  "We were shooting …
