Peter Freischlag will be recognized later this month by the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association.
The Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association (IHSTCA) has named Downers Grove South High School's boys tennis coach Peter Freischlag “Coach of the Year” for 2012. Freischlag, who is also a teacher in the special services department at South High, will be recognized later this month following his team's successful fall season, according to District 99 officials. Each year, the IHSTCA recognizes a coach based on team record, obstacles the team faced, contributions the coach made to the sport outside of the high school season and player development. Despite missing two star players, the Mustangs brought home another win.

With superstar freshman Tony Leto (7-0) in California at a national tournament and junior All-Stater Jon Artus (14-1) taking the ACT, the Mustang Boys Tennis Team (13-1) headed into the prestigious 8-team Glenbard West Invitational a bit uncertain as to how they would fair. But the Mustangs did not have to wait long to remind the field that their top-10 ranking and season’s success has not been by accident as they demolished the field winning 3 of the 5 flights and winning 13 of 15 matches played. Dana Graczyk will serve as the new head coach for the 2012 spring season.
Editor's note: The following is from a District 99 press release. Dana Graczyk has been named the new head coach for the Downers Grove North High boys tennis team for the 2012 spring season. Graczyk serves as a tennis instructor at Naperville Tennis Club in Naperville, as well as the boys junior varsity coach at Benet Academy. She is also an assistant director and college instructor, teaching a variety of tennis, golf and fitness classes and promoting health and wellness at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. Previously, she was the girls varsity coach at Hinsdale South High School. Freshman Boys Soccer The Downers Grove South freshman boys soccer team defeated Oswego East High School Aug. 24 by a score of 4-1. Girls Tennis The Downers Grove South JV girls tennis team beat Downers Grove North last night Aug. 24 in the team's first dual match of the season. The team won six out of the seven matches.
