Woodridge Resident Copes With Grief By Organizing Charity Outing

The 'Swing Like Mike' golf outing will be held at the Village Greens of Woodridge on October 20, and the proceeds will benefit the Walter and Connie Payton Foundation.

This is going to be the first October that the Szczepaniak family will celebrate Mike Szczepaniak's birthday without him. The Woodridge resident, husband and father of two died last year of pancreatic cancer, one month after he was diagnosed with the illness. Because Mike was a union carpenter, he did not receive pay when he took off work for his illness. To help the family pay for medical and funeral expenses, the Woodridge Jaycees organized a fundraiser last November. This year, his wife Sherri is working with the Jaycees to organize another fundraiser to benefit the Walter and Connie Payton Foundation in his memory. "People helped me," said Sherri. "I decided to do something every year around his birthday ... pay it forward to somebody …

Village Decides Against RFP for Independent Village Greens Consultant

The Village of Woodridge has decided that the Park District will conduct a study of the Village Greens of Woodridge to maintain it as a mid-range competitive golf course.

A room full of Woodridge residents received a pleasant surprise Thursday night. They had packed the board room of the Village Hall with two goals in mind—voice their objections against any board action to approve a request for proposal for an independent consultant to determine potential land uses for the Village Greens of Woodridge and convince the village board to keep the Village Greens as it is—an 18-hole golf course. Turns out, they didn't have to. "Many audience members here this evening are interested in learning about the next steps regarding the Village Greens Golf Course. Many are under the impression the village board will be taking action regarding an RFP this evening," said Village Administrator Kathleen Rush as the …

I would welcome a development without TIF subsidies that adds a new Grocery, Hardware, or Auto Dealer to 75th St. Only a few "big box" spaces are empty between Darien and Woodridge. And lord knows the school districts could use the tax money. Maybe a 9 hole course can remain to buffer the housing areas.   more ›

Thirty Groups Expected at Village Greens Stakeholder Meeting Tonight

The groups will discuss the Village of Woodridge's plans to hire a consultant to evaluate the Village Greens of Woodridge golf course.

More than 30 community and stakeholder groups are expected at a public information meeting tonight regarding the Village of Woodridge's plans to hire a consultant to evaluate land use options for the Village Greens of Woodridge golf course. A committee was formed to oppose this evaluation after a statement was released by the village last month announcing its plans for the process. "After 30 years, the Village Greens golf course is in need of several improvements including a new irrigation system and maintenance facility," said Village Administrator Kathleen Rush in a media announcement about the plans last month. “We want to ensure that, prior to making a significant investment in the golf course, the Village Board has sufficient data and…

Village Greens is a beautiful golf course and a great place to have a corporate golf outing on the course or a meeting in their banquet room. But, has anyone tried making turning west onto 75th Street when there is a lot of traffic? Imagine how bad it is going to be when the 75th Street widening project is completed. More cars will be using 75th Street and in order to merge into the left west …   more ›

BEB, We asked the Park District...they're not supposed to make a profit. They are supposed to maintain this community asset for the Village. However, they have made a profit every year for 16 years and have put the money back into the course. The Village even admitted that they haven't taken a dime of taxpayer money in 20 years. Knowing those facts, why would they consider redevelopment now...…   more ›

Village Greens Committee to Village: What Happened?

In this letter to the editor, the Woodridge Keep the Village Greens Committee seeks to remind the village about its commitment to the preservation of open space.

Woodridge Patch accepts letters to the editor. The following was submitted by Woodridge resident Mike Huber. If you're interesting in submitting a letter, e-mail Woodridge Patch Editor Sabrina Wu at sabrina@patch.com. ------------- In the April 4, 2008 version of the Village of Woodridge’s e-news (CLICK HERE for link to article), the Village of Woodridge boasted about purchasing 44 acres of land from School District 99 for $14.2 million dollars plus $800,000 in legal fees. The Village stated that “Preservation of open space, and specifically this property, has been a top priority identified by residents at every Town Meeting the Village has held over the course of the last decade. Understanding that priority, the Village has structured its…

What has happened over the last 4 years? Where they were once so interested in the communities quality of life and input, until now? Everything is beginning to make a little more sense...the widening of 75th street, and then the village springing on its residents their already preconceived plans of hiring a consultant and potential redevelopment. All sounds a bit fishy to me! We want ANSWERS! You…   more ›

Resident to Village: Why Waste Our Tax Money in Hiring a Consultant?

The Keep the Village Greens Committee Chairman wants answers as to whether a consultant to evaluate the Woodridge golf course's quality is really necessary.

Woodridge Patch accepts letters to the editor. The following was submitted by Woodridge resident Mike Huber. If you're interesting in submitting a letter, e-mail Woodridge Patch Editor Sabrina Wu at sabrina@patch.com. ------------- We’ve now had time to digest the PowerPoint presentation that was prepared and shown at the last Village of Woodridge Board meeting by Village Administrator Katy Rush despite not being on the pre-printed agenda. While we’re getting used to the Village’s tendency to act first and allow for public input later, we would like to address some of the things that were mentioned in that PowerPoint as well as the Village Greens Study Information Sheet (see link above) posted on the Village of Woodridge website the …
