Village Encourages Residents to “Shop Local, Shop Woodridge.”

Small Business Saturday is being celebrated across the nation Nov. 24.

Are you looking for a local accountant, attorney, bakery or barber? Do you need an expert computer repair specialist, financial planner, dentist or hairdresser? How about a terrific restaurant, grocery store or other retailer - right in your own hometown? That’s what Small Business Saturday is all about – shopping at small, local businesses. The Village of Woodridge has compiled a list of categories of local businesses on its “Shop Local, Shop Woodridge” page, just in time for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24. Naperville North Senior Receives Woodridge Chamber Scholarship

Kathryn Wylly will attend Marquette University in the fall.

The Woodridge Chamber of Commerce recently recognized Naperville North Senior Kathryn Wylly as its 2012 scholarship recipient.  Each year, the chamber offers scholarships to students planning to attend a business college, two-year college, or four-year university. Applicants must live in Woodridge through their date of graduation from high school, have a parent or guardian who is a member of the chamber or attend a school that's a member of the chamber to qualify. 26-Year-Old Woodridge Man Dies in Rollover Crash

Cesar Ramirez, of the 2600 block of 75th St., died around 12:05 a.m. Thursday following a single-car accident, WGN reports.

A 26-year-old Woodridge man has died following a single-car accident in Riverside, WGN reports.  Cesar Ramirez, of the 2600 block of 75th St., was pronounced dead around 12:05 a.m. at Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, about 15 minutes after arriving. Riverside police told WGN preliminary reports said the SUV was traveling at a high speed, struck a curb and rolled over several times onto the front lawn of a Riverside home. Ramirez was thrown from the car.  There was a strong odor of alcohol from both Ramirez and his passenger, a 23-year-old Cicero woman who sustained minor injuries, police told WGN.

Economic Forecast Looks Good, Economist Says

Area Chamber of Commerce members hear bright outlook for next two years.

The next two years hold promise for the state of the national economy, an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank told area businessmen during a Tuesday luncheon. Speaking at a multi-chamber of commerce event in Willowbrook, William Strauss, senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, said all signs point to economic growth over the next two years. The event was co-sponsored by the Chambers of Commerce in Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Lisle, Westmont, Woodridge and the Willowbrook-Burr Ridge chamber.  Strauss predicted the economy would grow at a rate of 3.5 percent to 4 percent over the next two years. Chamber Promotes Local Shopping

The Woodridge Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Woodridge have created a website that allows the public to show community support and see what the local businesses have to offer. "This is a great way for people to keep in touch and see what is going on in the community," Amy Melinder President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce said. "People have one place to go to look for information." Shop Local Shop Woodridge provides a list of contact information and addresses on all the local retail, restaurants, markets and entertainment businesses. The site also tells the public how to get involved in the community.
