Meet Woodridge Park District's Coach of the Year Tom Senne

Senne, 45, a father of two, beat out five other contestants nominated for the honor.

Woodridge resident Tom Senne was named the Woodridge Park District's 2012 Coach of the Year in March, over five other nominated coaches, an honor that the 45-year-old basketball and softball coach and father of two is relishing, the Suburban Life reports. "It really is a nice honor for me," Senne told the paper. "I have been doing this for quite awhile now, and I have seen other coaches who have won the same award. And it really is a bigger deal than I thought it would be." According to the paper, the Coach of the Year honorific began a few years ago to recognize coaches to go above and beyond just "teach[ing] the X's and O's of the game;" Senne, who grew up loving sports, decided to continue coaching even when his daughters aged out of …

Village Targets Janes Plaza Shopping Center With Eminent Domain Action

After months of failed negotiations, the Village of Woodridge is moving forward to acquire the shopping center, a spot for the Athletic Recreation Center development.

The Woodridge Village Board approved and ordinance last week to take eminent domain action to acquire the Janes Plaza Shopping Center.  According to a village news release, the village and the property owners couldn't come an agreement after "lengthy negotiations."  During the summer of 2012 Woodridge amended its Janes Avenue Tax Increment Financing District plan. The change went into effect after several months of Village Board consideration and public input. The change allowed for TIF dollars to be used to purchase property and contribute toward the development of an Athletic Recreation Center to be built and financed by the Woodridge Park District.  In November, the Woodridge Village Board authorized staff to negotiate the purchase of …

Village Greens Future: Park District Presents Strategic Plan to Village Board

Park district officials say Village Greens of Woodridge is self-sustaining and doesn’t require “a dime of taxpayer money.”

Woodridge Park District officials gave a detailed presentation to the village board Thursday night on the district’s  five-year strategic plan, which assesses the future viability of Village Greens of Woodridge  golf course. With an eye toward drafting a long-term agreement between the village and park district, in August, village staff recommended the evaluation of land-use options and potential financial investment …

I wait for the finalization of the Intergovernmental agreement. George's urn began spinning when the ill conceived recommendation was made for selling the Village Greens for commercial/retail operations. Now maybe the groove created by the spin will not grow deeper. Thank you to ALL who fought for open space and the residents who value open space planning. Of course, Village Greens holds a …   more ›
