Computer class registration also begins next week at the library.
Need a computer on the go? The Woodridge Public Library might be able to help. The library is now offering laptops that users can check out to use in the library. Card holders can get them for a two-hour period, and they can renew the rental if no one else is waiting for one. Each laptop has Microsoft Office applications and internet access through the Library's wireless network. Speaking of laptops, computer class registration begins Monday, Feb. 25. Use the library's online calendar to see class dates and to sign up. Read more about what computer classes (and other programs) are coming up in the Library Leaves Spring 2013 edition.

Ten area libraries will offer the Big Read program, which encourages patrons to read the same book with the goal of promoting reading, sparking discussion and building community.
You know how the typical book club works: A group of people read the same book, then meet to discuss it. But not too many take the premise of a book club and make it a months-long community experience that includes learning about not only the literature but also relevant and related movies, food, geography, music and more. The Shoemaker's Wife, this year's book, tells the story of two lovers whose journeys take them from the mountains in Italy to their new home in America. Inspired by her own family history, author Adriana Trigiani's novel tells a love story that also …

Censorship is alive and well, as highlighted by Banned Books Week—and you might be surprised by who the most vocal challengers of books are.
The importance of the First Amendment and the concept of "intellectual freedom" might not always be readily apparent to most kids, but Banned Books Week is a great opportunity to make those lessons come alive for children—and adults. Banned Books Week is held annually during the last week of Sept. (Sept. 30-Oct. 6, 2012). The week is an occasion for libraries and bookstores across the U.S. to help folks realize just how real and ongoing a problem censorship is. At the Woodridge Public Library, this year marks the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week, and the theme is “30 Years of Liberating Literature.” During this week, the Library will display materials that have been banned, challenged, or restricted in the United States during those …
